Kaitlyn's POV
It had been a couple days since Shawn's call. I was in the recording studio. I had sent Aaliyah home the day after the call. I couldn't keep her from school any longer. The twins were with me at the studio. I could see them through the glass. They were distracting me. They had been distracting me. I closed my eyes as I tried finishing the last song... But I couldn't. There was another critique and another and another. I finally got a break. I sat by the twins as they played. Tears came to my eyes as I thought of Shawn. I quickly wiped my eyes as the door opened.
"Kaitlyn, this song would work best with another person."
"Well unless Shawn's here I'm not doing the song with another person. And we all know that Shawn is in Mexico still. Let's just get this album done already." I looked down at my phone to see a text from Shawn, responding to what I sent him 5 hours ago.
"Kaitlyn, go get some lunch and be back in an hour. We're going to try to figure this song out." I sighed and grabbed the girls as I walked out of the building. I called Shawn.
"Hey," Shawn said.
"Hi." I looked around and started walking towards McDonalds.
"Was there a specific reason you called?" Shawn chuckled.
"I...," tears came to my eyes, "Uh, no. There was no reason I called."
"Kaitlyn," Shawn said in a warning tone. "You have to tell me if something is up." I paused for a moment.
"I... I can't handle this anymore, Shawn."
"What do you mean? What can't you handle?"
"The stress. All of the stress. I have the girls with me in the studio and they're a distraction and I can't get this stupid song right and I am supposed to meet you in SF tomorrow which I very possibly won't be able to go to. And through all of this you are a whole country away and you are my rock."
"What do you mean you might not be able to go to SF?"
"Well I need to get the album done."
"It sounds like you need the girls to be taken care of while you sing the song. You shouldn't have sent Aaliyah back home."
"And they are saying my song would sound better as a collaboration."
"Kaitlyn." Shawn said. I stopped talking. "You are going to San Francisco tomorrow. Ask if the twins can be watched in another room. You'll figure the song out. I know you will."
"Thanks Shawn."
"Look, I have to go. I'll call you later." The line went dead. A single tear came from my eye as I walked into the McDonalds.
We ordered our food and ate it. The girls were playing with the toys. A man sat next to me. He looked oddly familiar.
"Kaitlyn, they won't stop until they get you on their side."
"What do you mean, they? Who are they?"
"The WWC. There will be blood soon. Unless you join." The man stood up and walked out of the McDonalds. A chill ran down my spine.
