I flicked my ears as I heard Logan unzip the tent. He ran a hand over his exhausted face. "Starlight, how long have you been awake?"
"Oh a while," I answered before I kinked my tail over my back. "It's no big deal. I can't sleep anywhere. How did you sleep?"
He shrugged as turned to see that others inside their tents were beginning to stir. "Perhaps they'd like breakfast," I suggested as I waved my tail before I tuned to see Tony and Erik emerging from their tent. Tony looked over to me before he bit his lip and blinked his red eyes. He then turned back to Erik and whispered something that even I couldn't catch.
"I'm not sure," Logan murmured as he turned to see Rouge, Storm, and Jean emerging from their own tent. They were dressed modestly but they were dressed in their sleeping clothes. They each had one a loose shirt, no bra, and their hair was down.
Bobby and John came out of their own tent, looking like they weren't used to their sleeping conditions. Poultice darted from his den and his tail wagged madly. "That was the best sleep I've ever gotten!"
Of course he'd feel that way, he was born in the forest. He hadn't known anything else until the battle and until he started living in the school. I was pleased that at least one member of the group slept well.
"I'm glad Poultice," I barked as I strode toward him and lowered my head. I touched my nose to his and his eyes gleamed. "What are we doing now?"
"We have to rescue the children," Jean told him as she motioned toward the jet. "It's not great but I worked hard and I think that we can lift it off the ground.
I rumbled in pleasure. I was glad that we weren't going to stay here any longer than we had to. "Great job Jean," praised Logan before I strode to his side and bit his leg a bit to chide him for saying it like that. He looked down at me and scowled. I just puffed out my tail in defiance.
"Well what are we waiting for," asked Erik as he strode toward the jet. Tony followed before he let out a howl to the wilderness, thanking it for being so kind to us. Mystique peeked out from her own tent and followed her leader.
I tilted my head before I let out my own howl of thanks. They had kept danger from us, so far so I suppose that thanking the wilderness was the least I could do. Poultice copied me and we howled until all of the X-Men had changed into their suits and were ready to go.
"Come on Starlight," called Poultice as he bounded after Bobby, bucking and yipping in pleasure and play.
My eyes glowed in amusement and I surged forward. I scooped him up easily with my muzzle and threw him in the air. He yelped before I slapped my wings and caught him. He yipped and licked my ear until it tickled. I rumbled in amusement and lowered down before I shook my head to clear it. Poultice then leaped off of my back and shoved his head into my leg, trying to move it. I looked down and my eyes glowed. I lifted my paw and he fell forward, face first into the grass.
"Come on rascal," I chuckled as I picked him up by the scruff and placed him soundly on his paws. "It's time to go."
He whimpered before he padded forward toward the jet. I rumbled and pushed after him with Logan being the last one. Poultice looked around once he entered, wondering where to sit. "It's okay," I murmured as I stepped over him. "Just follow me and I'll show you where to sit."
He nodded and my tail ruffled the fur between his ears. He darted forward and I saw Logan sit as far away from Erik as possible. I looked around for a free seat and saw there was one next to Logan but that was mine. I did see one beside Erik and I sighed. "Do you mine sitting next to Erik," I asked as I threw my muzzle toward Erik who was sitting beside Mystique.
He shook his head but I could tell he was nervous. "He isn't going to hurt me, is he," he asked as his eyes darted around.
I beamed and shook my head. "Of course not. Trust me if he does I'll kill him," I assured before I picked up Poultice by the scruff. I set him down in the seat and strapped him in. I made sure the straps were sound so he didn't go flying out and have Kurt have to save him again. "There now don't be rude."
Poultice looked up at Erik who just smiled. Poultice looked right back to his paws and took in a rattled breath. I was wondering if he should be the one talking to the Professor. He was scared of Logan too. Maybe there was something else going on that I should talk to him about.
I felt the jet lurch a bit and I perked up a bit. I strode forward and leaped into the seat beside Logan. I sat down and he strapped me in. He leaned back and placed hi hands on his head, muttering something. I rumbled in amusement and stretched out a paw and rested it on his shoulder. "Don't worry. I think Jean and Storm know what they're doing."
"I'm counting on it," Logan snapped at me but he didn't look at me. I just turned away and smiled. This was hopefully going to be a beautiful flight.
