Facing Stryker

Logan and I strode down the hallways. We had broken into a trot since we knew that time was against us. The scent of Stryker eventually grazed my nostrils and I led Logan to where I thought he was. I led us to a large steel door. I pressed my head agains it but it wouldn't open. Logan leaned on it and pushed it open with an easy push.

I looked up smugly at him before I darted into the snow. I landed knee deep in the white powdery goodness and rolled around a bit, cooling myself off. Once I finished I hauled myself to my paws and surged after Logan who was a bit ahead of me.

I skidded to a halt beside him and I realized he was looking straight forward. Stryker was standing by a jet, readying himself to get in it. I snarled to myself and my eyes narrowed to slits. "Coward!"

"We'll see how powerful he truly is," Logan agreed as he showed me his claws. I extended my own and bared my teeth in a snarl. In a swift movement I surged forward with Logan right behind me. We darted forward and I felt rage spark within me.

I knew that it had been Stryker that poisoned the water than Keen had drank. He had wanted to make sure that the companions were out of the way so that he had an easier chance at getting to the children. He must have had someone inside that was working for him. Keen could die just because of him!

I skidded to a halt and Logan did to. He then exploded forward and Logan threw Stryker against the wheel of the jet. Logan extended his claws and jabbed them into Styker's side. Stryker gasped in pain and I stood beside Logan, snarling in rage. I would make sure he didn't try anything and if he did he would loose a limb.

"It's the great Wolverine and his loyal mutt," spat Stryker as he turned his beady eyes to me.

I snapped my jaws around the thin air. "My name is Starlight," I snarled as my tail lashed against the ground.

"Starlight," echoed Stryker as he turned his head to the sky. "You should at least have a name like Wolverine over her. Given it any thought?"

Logan then thrust Stryker back against the wheel of the jet to jolt his attention back to him. "What did you do to me," he snarled as he held Stryker close so that he could hear every word.

"You sound like I destroyed you," rasped Stryker as he looked away. "If I remember you volunteered for the procedure." Logan looked to me and I shrugged. I didn't know anymore than he did.

"Look at you," continued Stryker as he looked down to the wound that Logan was inflicting on him. "You were an animal then you're an animal now. I just gave you claws."

I knew that Logan was a heartbeat away from murdering Stryker but I had to make sure that didn't happen. Not because I thought he should stay alive but if we killed a human for killing mutants then were we any better?

"As I recall," I growled as my ears were shoved forward. "This animal is living a lot better than you."

Stryker let out a hollow breath. "Oh yes because I need a mutt to protect me," he taunted as he looked down on me. "His wolf who is even more lost than he is."

I flicked my tail over my shoulder. "Well your little mutt is dead," I murmured, meaning the lady that Logan had left for dead in the bottom of the water container with Adamantium leaking from her body.

Stryker sighed and relaxed a bit before Logan raised a hand and placed it dangerously close to Stryker's neck. "We could have done things together Wolverine," Stryker urged, suddenly having a change of heart now that he needed a new pet.

Wolverine smirked. "I thought I was just an animal with claws." He then grasped a chain and threw it around Stryker. He tied him to the wheel and made sure that he couldn't get out. He then turned to me and patted me between the ears before he turned and heard a strange sound.

"The pressure is building and soon the base will be underwater," Stryker told him with bright and ready eyes. "You're friends will be dead soon!"

Logan shook his head before I darted to his side, feeling a new fire light in my underbelly. I wouldn't let Poultice or Keen die like Mirage had. I promised myself that!

"Not if I can help it," growled Logan before he darted forward with me at his side.
