I felt my body jerk and I surged to my paws. I snarled and my tail lashed as I darted around madly. My eyes narrowed to slits and my claws extended.
"Starlight," chided Thruster as he rushed to his own paws and pressed against me to calm me. His eyes were clouded and glazed and I knew he was exhausted. "It's okay. We just landed."
I took in a raspy breath and shook my head to clear it. "Er sorry. I just thought we were back fighting," I murmured before I licked a paw and drew it over my ear.
"Are you coming," called Logan as he walked forward with Rouge walking close behind him.
I nodded and strode forward with Thruster following. I looked over my shoulder and saw Poultice cowering a bit as if he was debating whether or not he could come. "Well don't slow us down," I teased warmly as I flicked my tail over my back.
He brightened and surged forward and weaved between my legs. "I'm ready," he announced as he turned his muzzle upward in pride.
"Alright but don't say anything to him," I told him as I licked him between the ears and he wagged his tail. "Let the Professor do all of the talking."
Poultice wagged his tail and I sunk my teeth into his scruff. "Now stand still. Kurt has to take all of us but we have to be connected."
He nodded and relaxed. In a blink we appeared the the President's office. I was standing beside my mate with my wings tightly placed against my flank. Poultice stood under me and I looked down, just to make sure he was alright but I didn't have to worry. He had both Thruster and I to take care of him. Even though his mother and father were dead didn't mean that Thruster and I couldn't take over the role of parents.
The president looked a bit shocked at seeing us and I couldn't blame him. Time was frozen around us and outside Storm was willing rain and wind to rush around outside. It was dark and it made our time feel more suspenseful. I felt like I was in an old school horror movie.
"What are you doing here," the president demanded as he narrowed his eyes at us.
Poultice's eyes gleamed and I lowered my head down and licked him between the ears. "Remember that it's not polite to read minds," I reminded him gently as I rubbed my head against his shoulders.
"I know," he murmured as he nudged my head away and worked his thorn sharp claws against the ground. "But it's still nice to intimidate him! Look at how afraid he is!"
"I'm sure that he isn't afraid of us," I argued as I picked up my head and looked to Thruster who surprisingly enough was keeping his fire contained.
"Well one day he maybe," Poultice murmured as he puffed out his chest as he tried to make himself larger. "When I'm as big as Thruster."
"Not many wolves are as big as Thruster," I pointed out before I looked back to the president who was sitting stiff in fear.
"What do you want me to do with this," asked the president as he looked at the paper from Stryker's lab.
"We just want to show you what we've found," the Professor explained as he folded his hands neatly on his legs.
"What you do with this information we can't control," murmured Thruster as he dipped his broad head. The president looked away as Thruster tensed his muscles and it seemed like he was ready to strike.
"This is about a war of humans and mutants," the Professor exclaimed. "I know that some of it has already began. There have been casualties on both sides."
I noticed Scott and Logan hang their heads. I blinked my eyes in sympathy before I looked down to Poultice. He still didn't know about his brother. He knew he wasn't with us but I knew a small part of him believed he had escaped with the other mutant children. I knew that wasn't true since it had been my claws that seized his life away from him and I still regretted it from the depths of my heart.
"Now it's your turn to play," I warned in a low, dangerous voice.
The Professor murmured one more thing that I didn't catch and we all smiled. We then vanished again and arrived back on the jet.
