Chapter 37 - A Huge Loss

I get home after a long night as The Raven. I walk in and trip over a box. I haven't unpacked anything except for the alcohol box.
"Tommy's right it's my own fault I have no right to be upset or angry," I say out loud to myself. "I'm such an idiot. I had the best guy and I let him slip because I couldn't face the damn truth" I continue to speak to myself. "Nick is dead and it's my fault, although he will say it's not my fault. Sam and AJ need to be dead to be protected and if anyone found out about Tommy he's most likely dead." I say taking a sip of a glass of wine I had poured for myself "oh god I'm definitely messed up, I'm drinking wine. I hate wine" I say. My conversation with myself was cut short by the ringing of my phone.
"Hello?" I answer
"Jade. Elijah just quit" My dad says
"what did he say?" I ask
"he just needed to leave so he quit" My dad explains
"oh," I say
"I have already got a new bodyguard for you. would you like me to send him over now?" My dad asks
"I don't want a new bodyguard," I say
"you have no choice. your mother is insisting" He tells me
"Dad, can I move back home?" I ask
"of course. your mother will be delighted" he says
"yeah. I'm moving back temporarily though I want to do some work to the house" I tell him
"sounds fine to me, just be careful" he says
"I will I love you," I say
"love you too," he says then I hang up.

~1 month later~
"Jade dinner is ready" My mother calls up to me
"I have already told you I'm going out," I tell her coming downstairs
"Take Barry with you," She says and I groan and head outside. Barry was waiting by the car. I hated Barry, he was rude and annoying. He was tall and muscular, he had short black hair and brown eyes.
"Where's Arthur?" I ask
"It's his day off," Barry tells me holding open the car door for me. "where to?" He asks
"here," I say handing him a piece of paper with my home address on it. I haven't been back here since I moved back in with my parents. I normally got Arthur to pick up any mail and I hired a maid to tidy and keep the place in check. I did unpack all the boxes before I moved out just in case I decided to move back.
"you can go, Barry, I'm staying here tonight," I tell him
"I don't think that's wise," He says
"I don't care, go home" I order him
"I'm sorry ma'am but you're not my boss, your father is," He says
"fine stay out here see if I care," I say and I close the front door in his face. There was some mail on the ground, I pick it up and head into the kitchen. I throw them on the side and head down to the basement.
"You two idiots down here?" I say switching on the light
"yes" Sam says appearing in front of me along with Anna
"Barry's outside," I tell them as I jump onto a sofa kicking my shoes off.
"He's is awful. why won't he give you any space?" Anna says
"Lewis keeps leaving threatening messages," I say pulling out the most recent note and throwing it at Sam
"turn yourself in or else?" Sam reads eyebrows raised
"I was shaking in my boots" I joke
"careful he might break a window" Sam laughs making me and Anna laugh
"I'm glad your heart broken angry-self didn't last long," Anna says
"thanks to Tommy for pointing out it's my own fault," I say
"you were just trying to protect him," Sam says
"I should have told him the truth. and if either of you says I told you so I will kick you out. or set Barry on you" I say and we all start laughing.
"Jade" I hear Barry call.
"down here" I shout back. I head back up the basement stairs while Anna and Sam hide.
"Jade, we need to hurry," Barry says grabbing my arm
"no whats going on?" I ask tugging my arm out of his grip
"it's your father" He says
"what about him. Barry tell me what's going on" I demand
"your father has been shot. He's in hospital" Barry tells me and I swore my heart stopped. I quickly snap back to reality.
"let's go," I say closing the basement door. we get to the hospital, my mother was crying and there was a doctor stood next to her.
"what's going on?" I ask the doctor.
"Are you Jade?" He asks and I nod my head "I'm really sorry. your father didn't make it through surgery" He tells me. I wanted to collapse into a ball and cry
"I want to see him," I say and the doctor nods.
"I'll leave you alone to say goodbye," the doctor says
"dad," I say letting the tears fall. "I'm going to kill him for this." I say "I'm so stupid to think he wouldn't go after you" I take a deep breath and wipe the tears from my face "I'm done running, I'm done with the lies. It's time to face my past" I head back up and I held my mother while she cried into my shoulder. I then take her home.
