"We love because He first loved us." 1 John 4:19

We often think that the fall of Samson was because he was deceived by Delilah. But if we truly try to go deeper into the story, it was not Delilah's deception that led Samson to captivity but his arrogance and blind love for a woman, loving her more than the purpose that God has given him that led to his destruction.

We are all given different gifts and abilities so we can serve God well and make God as our priority for in Him comes all good things.  We must remember to love the Lord our God above our husband/wife/lover/children. No matter how we say that we love them or they love us, there is always that possibility that they may deceive us but God is the one who is faithful.

Samson's life is a story of what happens when we are chosen by God but we give in to our own arrogance and selfish desires.

You see, Samson here fell in love with Delilah without seeking God's approval.  He got attracted to the physical beauty of a woman and it led to his downfall. Men naturally looks at what could fill up our eyes, but if we fail to see the beauty of the spirit of the person inside, we will be deceived one way or another and we won't be walking in the purpose that God has for us. Eventually, this mistake would only lead us to sacrifice unnecessarily and would also ruin those of the people around us.

Samson's eyes were gouged out in captivity like his blind love for Delilah that even after her many deception chose to trust her and bared his weakness to her rather than keeping the secret of the purpose of his birth to which he was sent in this world to do.

His arrogance because of the great strength given to him by God became his weakness for being complacent, trusting his own ability. But when God's Spirit left him, he became prey to his enemies.

Let us treasure what God has given us and love Him even more for all the gifts and favours He has shown us. Let us not forget Him in the heat of romance or bliss of life, instead, praise Him more for allowing us to love and give love to others.

We must remain steadfast to the purpose that God gave to us and to love Him above anyone or anything in this world. For we love because He first loved us.

For when we love God first, He will teach us how to love others better.
