I'm putting this on here because I'll never actually finish the book so, here you go.
Seven, six, five, four, three, two.........one
The shrill sound of an alarm clock didn't startle me in the slightest, I was already wake. I reached over and groggily turned off the stupid sound, groaning as I did so.
"Claudia, time to get up!" I groaned again, hating being called my actual name.
"I'm up!" I called back, sitting up and looking out my window. "I've been up..." I muttered to myself.
It had been three years since I moved here with my family and to be honest. I never liked it here, in Texas, that is. It just gets so hot and the people here are dicks.
I get up and pull my clothes that I set up last night off the top bunk of my bed and began changing, making sure my chest looked flat enough. I pulled on my Converse and walked out of my room, saying goodbye to my bird. I knocked on my sister's door to make sure she was up. She opened the door and BTS was blasting out of her phone.
"What?" I shrug and turn to go down the stairs.
"Just making sure you were up."
"Of course I'm up." I shrug and head downstairs, placing my book bag on the couch. I was greeted with the lovely smells of bacon and eggs as my mom heated up some breakfast burritos she made yesterday.
"Smells awesome mom." She smiled a little and motioned towards the fridge.
"Go ahead and get your fruit and the juice."
"Yes ma'am." I go ahead and get the two different fruits and 3 different juice jugs. I set them on the table peaches for me and Jasmine and pineapples for Kayla. "Where's dad?"
"He should be coming down soon." I nod and go ahead and grab some silverware and glasses for the whole family. Soon enough, I heard the tell tale thumping of feet going down the stairs and my dad and my sisters showed up. I went ahead and sat down, pouring myself some fruit punch. My mom set down the burritos and we both waited for the rest of the family.
Once everyone sat down and began eating, my mom pulled out her phone to put on the news. It was about the same thing we had been hearing about for the past week and a half, Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. "Did you guys hear about Trump banning transgender people from the military?" My older sister, Kayla asked and I just groaned internally, already knowing where this conversation was going.
"Yeah. We heard and it's about time too. They don't belong there." I tried my hardest to hide my shock and disgust.
"Why do you say that?" I ask cautiously.
"They think that they can constantly keep changing their gender. The military is not a social experiment." My dad answered coolly.
"Not only that, they think the military will pay for all of their surgeries and medicine and crap. We already have enough broke soldiers we don't need anymore just for the fact that they want to change what was given to them." My mom added and I just looked towards my twin, my eyes showing distrust. Mom raised an eyebrow. "What's that look for?" I looked away quickly and my heart began pounding like crazy.
"Nothing." I say a bit too quickly.
"It seems like you two are plotting something." I just shrug and try to act like nothing bad happened.
"I kinda just do that at random. Sorry..." I of course wasn't sorry. What they said pissed me off to no end. How could they say something like that? Trans people are people too and the deserve to serve the country that they live in.
The conversation strayed back to Trump and how we think he's a bad president. I just continued eating in silence, thinking about what I was just going to thrust upon them in only a matter of hours after today. Once everyone cleaned up, we took our annual family 'first day of school' pictures and my mom nearly yelled at me, saying that I needed to smile, which I did reluctantly.
"Be good and make some friends." I rolled my eyes and followed my dad to the car. We have this stupid tradition when it's the first day of school, they drive us to school and then after school we take the bus. To be perfectly honest, I hate it. We are all in high school, we don't need to be babied.
And that's it. It was basically my first day of highschool. How I still remember all of that, I don't know.
