Scott POV
A few hours later, I'm in the car, driving towards Stiles' place to pick up Jason. It's dark outside now and I'm listening to some random song on the radio. I'm looking forward to seeing Stiles again, even though we see each other quite a lot now. I never get bored of it. My excuse usually is that I'm just trying to make up for all that lost time, but the truth is, the real reason I'm always so excited to see him is because I love him. Kira and Allison are right. I shouldn't deny how I'm feeling. I might not be able to tell Stiles yet how I feel, but I need to at least stop lying to myself about it. That would hurt more people than it would help them. Still, it is sort of scary to be falling in love with someone again, only a number of months after a bad divorce, where the woman refuses to see her kid ever again. Quite frankly, I'm not sure I do want her to come back now. I've given her ample chances to come back here and have a relationship with her son even if we aren't married anymore, but she won't even answer my calls. She has hurt me and my son. I can't allow that. I don't want her to make things worse, so I think it'll be better for her to stay out of our lives completely. Jason will still miss his mom of course, but when he's older, he'll understand. It's just like how my dad ran out on Mom and I all those years ago. Sure, the circumstances were different, but I was still a kid without a father. I was upset and confused, but as I got older, I began to grow resentment towards the man that just left Mom and I to fend for ourselves with barely any explanation. The only thing that made me know he was even still alive was him sending me cash and a card for my birthday every year in the mail. I hate the fact that Jason will have to go through with that with Vivian. I just hope he will be okay. He's a strong kid. I'm sure he'll be fine.
Finally, I pull up into the driveway of Stiles' house. I stop the car and quickly jump out. I grab my keys and start heading towards Stiles' house, noticing all the lights on. I walk up to the front door and knock on it politely three times while my stomach does flips inside of me. I've always been a bit anxious waiting for someone to answer the door ever since I found Stiles bleeding and unconscious on the floor in his living room. I shudder at the memory. I swear I'll never get that image out of my head.
After a few moments, Stiles opens the door. He smiles brightly at me.
"Ah, hello, Scott. Please, come on in." Stiles greets me in a friendly voice, stepping out of the doorway. I quickly step inside and close the door behind me. "So, have they had a good time?" I ask Stiles curiously. Suddenly, I hear a random burst of loud laughing coming from some room. Well, I guess that answered my question for me. "I'd say so." Stiles chuckles in response before walking further into the hall.
"We were just about to have dinner. You can stay, if you want." Stiles offers as we make our way towards the dining room. My eyes widen and I quickly shake my head. "Oh, no, I couldn't do that, I wouldn't want to be a bother-" I start to ramble, but Stiles cuts me off.
"Nonsense, Scott. You wouldn't be a bother at all! I've made a stir fry, so there will be plenty for everyone. Besides, it'll save you cooking, right?" Stiles turns around and gives me a small wink at the end, causing me to blush profusely, which only makes Stiles laugh as he turns back around and walks into the kitchen to dish up dinner. I want to protest again, but it seems that I have lost my voice.
"Scott, can you call the kids down, please?" Stiles calls out to me from the kitchen.
"O-okay." I manage to say, swallowing down my nerves and embarrassment. I walk out of the room and into the main hallway. I can still hear Claudia and Jason laughing, which makes me smile. "Jason! Claudia! Dinner's ready!" I call out loudly. A few seconds later, the two children rush out of one of the rooms and speed past me, still giggling like crazy.
