Scott POV

I flinch at the sound of the gunshot from the other side of the room (I'm guessing from near the stairs) and watch as James falls to the ground almost immediately, groaning and crying out in pain, blood starting to soak through his shirt, right near his shoulder. It probably won't be a fatal wound, if he is treated quickly. I blink in shock, everything that just happened feeling so fast. I then start to hear officers shouting and running down the stairs, over to James. Sheriff Stilinski runs over to me instead of James, as he is already being taken care of and he starts shouting angrily at me as he grips onto my shoulders.

"What the hell were you thinking, Scott? I told you not to run off! I told you to stay behind me! And look what happened when you didn't listen! You almost got yourself killed! If I hadn't of fired that shot when I did, you could be dead right now!" Noah yells angrily at me, shaking me slightly, but he also looks concerned about how I could have died just then and is glad to see that I am okay and still alive.

"I know, Sheriff. And I'm sorry. I just wanted to find Stiles and I couldn't wait." I apologize, feeling guilty.

"Yeah, 'sorry"doesn't cut it, young man. What would I have done if you were killed?" The Sheriff frowns sternly at me.

"I-I don't know..." I stammer, feeling bad. I now feel like I'm the size of an ant and just want to back up into a corner, feeling way too intimidated and in the wrong. I watch as the Sheriff sighs and runs a hand through his hair stressfully.

"I'm just glad that you're okay, Scott. Don't do anything reckless like that again, or I might be the one to kill you." The Sheriff warns me.

"Dad! Scott!" A voice calls out from behind me. I turn around and see a very upset and shaken up Stiles running towards us, tears rapidly falling down his face.

"Stiles," I breathe out as Stiles tackles me into a tight hug where he is sobbing into my shoulder, not wanting to let go.

"You idiot!" Stiles cries as he buries his face into my neck, but I know he doesn't mean that.

"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." I whisper truthfully as I hold onto Stiles, rubbing his back, trying to calm him down. I didn't want to upset Stiles again. I just wanted him to live, even if it meant that I wouldn't. I didn't know what else to do. If I moved, maybe James would have shot both of us. I couldn't let that happen.

"Oh my god, I love you so much. Don't scare me like that again, okay?" Stiles asks of me through his shaky sobs, clinging onto me tightly, almost as if he is afraid that if he lets go of me, that he will lose me forever.

"I won't. I promise. And I love you too, Stiles. It's okay. We're safe now." I answer, resting my head in the top of Stiles'. I gaze back over to the Sheriff, who has tears in his eyes, relieved to see that Stiles is alive and okay as well. I start to unwrap Stiles from me and wipe the tears from his face as he looks up at me with his beautiful honey brown eyes. I smile softly at him and give him a quick peck on the lips.

"Everything is going to be okay, Stiles. And I think someone wants to talk to you and see that you're okay too." I say before taking a few steps back, allowing the father and son to have their reunion. I watch with a smile as Stiles runs into his dad's arms, both of them sobbing and crying with relief, holding onto each other tightly.

"I'm so sorry, Dad!" Stiles cries.

"Shh, it's okay. You've got nothing to be sorry for, Stiles. You're safe now, don't worry. Claudia too. She's safe upstairs, waiting for us to return. I've got you, Stiles. James will never hurt you or be a threat to you ever again. I'll make sure that he's behind bars for the rest of his life." The Sheriff assures his son in calm voice, despite the tears dripping down his face and his body shaking a little with silent sobs.
