Scott POV
Not long after, I find myself in the passenger seat of the Sheriff's car, with the Sheriff driving quickly towards Stiles' house. There's another officer's car driving behind us too. My phone ended up with Jordan, so I guess he will be the one to make a transcript and keep it as evidence against James. Once again, I think about how great it will be to see the man behind bars. The man that ruined Stiles and Claudia's lives for years and is trying to do so once again. I can't let that happen. We will find them. We need to check Stiles' house for clues first.
"Is there any chance that they might still be there?" I ask Noah hopefully as I turn to look at him.
"No. James isn't that stupid." The Sheriff replies in an emotionless voice. I don't know why I would have expected anything else, really. I sigh quietly to myself and turn to look back at the window again, seeing the scenery fly past me.
"Stiles is brave, you know. He can handle James. He will do anything to protect Claudia." Noah tries to comfort me after a few minutes of uncomfortable and tense silence.
"I know that, but it doesn't mean I can't stop worrying about him." I reply, fidgeting with the sleeve of my shirt as I stare out the window, biting my lip slightly. I hear Noah laugh a little.
"You're a good partner Scott, I'll give you that." Noah compliments me.
"Thanks." I mumble in answer, feeling my cheeks start to blush.
"I just hope that James doesn't do anything to reckless to them. I don't want them getting hurt." I add in a sigh.
"You and I both, Scott. And I think we both know that Stiles would take the fall for Claudia." Noah agrees.
"Of course. That's what parents do." I nod as I gaze over at Noah for a second and smile lightly, happy to see that Stiles has a father that loves him and would do anything for him and try to protect him with his life. Noah notices me looking so he gazes over and gives a smile in return for a moment before focusing back on the road.
"I was horrified when Stiles told me about what James was doing to him, but by then, it was too late. Stiles had already left James. Turns out that Lydia and Jordan already knew though. Isaac too." Noah admits to me.
"I'm really sorry, Sheriff. I can't imagine what that must have been like to hear." I apologize sadly. When Jason is older and if he goes through what Stiles is going through, I know I'd be heartbroken and have no idea how to react. I think someone might hold me back from accidentally beating the abuser to death. Let's hope that it'll never ever have to come down to that. I'm sure that Jason will live a long, happy life and find someone to fall in love with who will treat him like an equal. That's all I want for Jason. It's all any parent could want for their children, really.
"It's fine, Scott. I'm just glad that I found out eventually. Better late than never." Noah shrugs in response. We continue to drive the rest of the way in silence, with me fiddling with my hands nervously, my heart beating faster. This drive feels way too long.
Finally though, we pull up into Stiles' driveway. I can't help but sigh in relief, even though there shouldn't be too much relief here. It's more than likely that Stiles and Claudia won't be here. Stiles' car is still in the driveway, but there is no other vehicle to be found. Of course James would take Stiles and Claudia away in his car, to wherever he is taking them. My hands clench into angry fists and I have the sudden urge to beat the shit out of James when I find him.
"Hey," The Sheriff says, placing an arm on my shoulder. I turn to face him, still tensed up.
"Everything is going to be fine, Scott. We'll find them and bring James in. Don't let your emotions make you do something that you might regret, okay?" Noah tells me seriously, which makes me relax and calm down a bit, my muscles not so tense anymore. I let out a deep breath, allowing my body to relax more. Noah nods in satisfaction.
