Scott POV
As we eat, Stiles and I continue on with our conversation, laughing and smiling like we don't have a care in the world, somewhat forgetting about the awkward and weird circumstances that brought us here. I don't even care that Lydia and Allison obviously set this up to be a date anymore. I'm just enjoying this time with Stiles, and also taking the time to admire him in this light with this scenery around us. I don't know why, but it just makes me love him more.
I'm glad that we are alone in this clearing too. I'm surprised that no one is here though. It's so nice out here, so why aren't many people around? Or is it just that known spot that couples always go to, so people tend to avoid it, not wanting to walk in on something private? Oh well, it's not really my concern. Stiles and I continue to talk and laugh as we finish off the food and our glasses of wine. The alcohol does make me feel warm and bubbly on the inside, allowing me to relax a bit more, but I'm definitely nowhere near drunk, which is good. Time seems irrelevant when I'm here with Stiles. I don't even know how we keep coming up with things to talk about. It's strange, considering how awkward we were when we first met for the first time in 10 years, neither of us knowing what to say. Now, neither of us can shut up.
Finally, we manage to have devoured all the food, including the biscuits and cupcakes that Claudia and Jason made for us, which was really sweet. Neither of us had another glass of wine, happy with the gentle buzz that one glass gave us, but neither of us wanted to go further than that, so we decided to put that away first. It was really nice wine though. I shouldn't be surprised. Allison and Lydia seem to be able to always find the best things.
Once everything is packed up in the basket again, I glance up at the sky to see that the sun has definitely started to sink down lower. It's not anywhere near sunset yet, but it's a good indication that we have been here for a while.
"Well, that was a great lunch. We can thank Lydia and Allison for that one." I chuckle, rubbing my stomach to emphasize my point. Stiles giggles in response.
"Yeah. That was definitely the best picnic I've ever had." Stiles agrees. My smile fades as I realize that I probably should bring up the reason why we are out here. If I don't do it, I'm sure Stiles will.
"Look, uh... About Allison and Lydia and why they brought us out here... I didn't know they were going to do that. If I did, well, I would have tried to stop it so we could have avoided this awkwardness. I'm sorry." I eventually say, even though it hurts for me to say it, sounding like that I don't actually love Stiles. I see a slight flicker of disappointment in Stiles' eyes.
"Oh... Okay. Yeah, I guess it was a bit weird with the way they set this all up." Stiles answers with a slightly uneasy laugh, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly, clearly feeling uncomfortable.
"Are you okay?" I frown worriedly at him.
"What, me? Oh, yeah, I'm fine." Stiles answers a little too quickly.
"Are you sure?" I ask him skeptically.
"Uh, yes? No? Ugh, I don't know..." Stiles mumbles, sounding a little frustrated, sighing at the end. I move the empty plates and boxes out the way and shuffle closer to Stiles instinctively, not realizing what my move is actually suggesting about my feelings for him. "What's wrong?" I ask Stiles seriously, giving him the best puppy eyes I can muster. Stiles sighs before responding. I notice that he can't look me in the eyes as he starts to speak.
