Ed and Emily were with Ed's granddad, William. They both thought for sure he wouldn't remember Emily, and maybe even not Ed, but he knew them both. "You sure still look beautiful, Emily," William told her as Emily's hand collided with Ed's.
"Thank you, William. So do you." She replied with a smile.
"Emily... it's my granddad." Ed said slowly into the phone.
"Do you need me at the hospital?" She asked concerned. He sniffed and nodded.
"Yeah. I need you." Ed heard the tires squeal on the other line, and he knew she made an immediate turn to go to him.
Emily hurried through the hospital. "William Sheeran." She said urgently to the lady at the desk. She looked at Emily sadly.
"Miss... I'm afraid-"
"No, I know. It's my... my boyfriend's grandfather." She stated. The lady nodded and told her the information.
Emily found Ed and his family. Ed turned to her and walked to her, wrapping his arms around her tightly. "Oh, Emily." Ed wept. Her arms were tight around him as he felt his face in her newly cut hair. That's when Ed started to cry. She rubbed his back and kissed his cheek lightly.
"I know, baby, I know."

Ed sat on the edge of their bed. Emily walked into the room holding two small cups of tea. She handed one to Ed and put her arm around him, holding him close. She saw the note in his hands.
"What's that for?" Emily asked softly. He sniffed and looked up at her.
"For the longest time..." His voice cracked. "I wondered 'what if he... what if he did...'" He didn't finish, but Emily nodded. "I was writing a song and I didn't finish it... but I..." Emily held Ed closer.
Ed looked up at her with glassy eyes. "I'm so glad I have you around Emily." He told her. She kissed his cheek lightly and rubbed it.
"I'm always gonna be around." She assured him.
"Always?"
"Always."

A week later, Ed and Emily were at his funeral.
"How come you haven't found someone yet?" Ed's grandfather asked 19-year-old Ed.
"I have. She's... my friend." Ed said slowly.
"A friend? How do you fall for a friend?" William asked. He smiled lightly.
"I guess I just... did. I never saw someone so beautiful before. She was perfect." Ed said thinking about Emily.
"Do you have a picture?" William asked. Ed nodded and pulled one out.
