Scene 4: Reason (Vincent)

Maria fell asleep as fast as she blinked, luckily I caught her before she could fall down, then I put her under the nearest tree.

“Mistress?! Wake up! Are you ok?! Maria!” I shouted as I shook her but she was out cold.

“Now that’s just great now I need to protect her all night… ah well at least, the curse will affect me now.” I said.

The wind blew ominously for some reason I could tell, there is something amiss, like I knew danger is near.

I heard a noise behind the trees. “Who’s there?!” I shouted.

From out of nowhere birds flew and lunged at me, I quickly summoned my shield and braced for impact but the birds just flew upwards into the sky and they circled, then as they flew back I drew my sword and slashed them. Sharp winds escaped from the sword and cut some of them but the others managed to evade the attack, they were intimidated and they flew away in a cowardly manner.

“That was close.” I said.

I looked at Maria still sleeping peacefully like nothing has happened. “Goodnight Maria.” I said as I stood sentinel until dawn.

The sun rose, amidst the chaotic night, I fought maybe ten times before Maria opened her eyes. I was panting clearly exhausted.

“Vincent? What happened?” Maria asked.

“I’m glad you’re awake.” I said sarcastically.

She looked worried so I soften up a bit, I fell down on my knees and my vision begins to blur but she helped me sit.

“I’m so sorry Vincent.” She said as she pulled out a ceramic butterfly out of her pouch.

“What is that?” I asked.

“A relic. It has its own reserve of magical essence that amplifies the magician’s magic power.” I said.

She placed the ceramic butterfly in front of us and chanted “Heal!” The ceramic statue started to crack and as the shards come flying emerged a beautiful blue butterfly and it flaps its wings sending out white glitters raining down on us that instantly healed my wounds and my fatigue, I felt good as new.

“Thanks Maria,” I said.

“Don’t mention it, it’s the least I can do to help you.” She said.

For some reason I had the urge to fly.

I stood abruptly and I surprised Maria “What’s wrong Vincent?” She asked. But I just shook my head “I feel like traveling in the sky.” I said.

I instinctively grabbed Maria’s hand and commanded the air to surge on my back like wings and I shot into the air taking Maria with me. She shouted in horror.

“Vincent! Do you know what you are doing?!” She shouted.

“I don’t know I’m following my Instincts!” I shouted back.

“You’re Insane!!!” She shouted.

“I know!” I shouted back followed by a laugh.

She shouted as she looked down. “Don’t worry I got you.” I said calmly.

She stared at me desperately but she slowly calmed down. “Fine I trust you.” She said.

She got a stone like statue of an owl and chanted. “Search!”

The stone owl’s exterior crumbled away and revealed a normal brown bird with two big black eyes and flew into the air ahead of us. “Maria, you’ve casted too many spells simultaneously you’ll tire yourself out again.” I warned but she smiled and I can see no trace of fatigue in her face.
