Scene 5: The Beginning (Maria)

I woke up from a horrible nightmare, I was in a very dark place there was nothing but emptiness and loneliness until a large skeleton that wore a tattered black cloak carrying a large scythe appeared.

His eyes glowed and a laugh so sinister that it made me speechless, it closed in its scythe ready to strike.

“Your soul is mine!! Maria Suncrest!”  It said.

I tried to retaliate but my voice won’t work. I was scared and I stepped back but I tripped on something and landed on my butt as I looked at the floor it was an ocean of tormented souls they reached out for me trying to pull me down with them, I reached out as I sank but before I could drown, I saw a light that Pierced through the darkness disintegrated the river of souls and the reaper was gone.

I woke up with a chill then I coughed out blood.

“What happened?” I asked myself.

I didn’t notice till I took a closer look at the white sheet and I looked around and saw that I am in my room my white wall, my crystal chandelier that illuminates the room, my personal library, and my wardrobe.

“I’m in my room? But how?”I asked.

I tried to stand and I struggled to my feet and I head towards my balcony and I saw Vincent looking steadily in the blue sky, like he was in trance.

“Vincent are you ok?”I asked.

He looked at me surprised.

He rushed towards me it is only when I saw that he was in a bad shape he was bandaged from the chest to his right shoulder.

“Maria you’re awake thank goodness.” He said.

“Vincent you’re in a bad shape what happened?” I asked.

He helped me to my balcony and told me the whole thing, why he didn’t run away even though he had no chance of winning and his deadly battle with his father. It made me so guilty. I was nothing but a liability to him.

“I’m so sorry Vincent, I couldn’t do anything.” I said.

“It’s ok. It’s my duty to protect you as your guardian.” He replied.

“But still…” I said reluctantly.

He sighed deeply then he stared at the sky “That wasn’t my dad.” He said straight but I can sense that he is still uncertain but he looked at me and smiled “He will never hurt anyone.” He said continuing his pretense.

I wanted to reassure him but I didn’t know how to but the way he lied made me giggle.

“You’re not a pretty good liar aren’t you?” I said.

“Guess not…” He said.

I held his hand and smiled.

“I know you still worry about him but I believe that your dad won’t do this unless he has his reasons, this might be some of kind of a trick don’t worry we’ll figure this out.”I said.

His tension was released I can feel him lightened up and I saw him blush too.

He nodded shyly.

“Thank you Maria.” He said.

I herd the door opened so we turned and saw Uncle Steve.

“I’m glad to see you awake Maria.”He greeted.

“Uncle Steve!” I greeted back.

I failed to notice that my hand was still on Vincent’s so I let go immediately.
