Rey was walking home after leaving the Wheeler house. She kept on thinking about Mike and how he was feeling about El. She felt really bad for him and wished their was something she could do. She needed to investigate into Eleven's death to make sure that it was for real, just in case. You could never be too sure when it comes to this sort of stuff.
As she was walking, Rey noticed a group a kids, three boys with bikes and one girl with a skateboard , riding down the road. She stopped in her tracks and watched them. She noticed them talking and overheard them say the words, "Mike", "El", and "Hes way too depressed". They knew Mike. Maybe they were ones who could help her investigate into this more. Even though they were kids, Rey felt like they have been through similar stuff.
Rey used her telepathy to talk to them in her mind saying, "Stop. We need to talk." The kids stopped in their tracks and looked around, confused. The girl smiled in satisfaction as she teleported over to them. They looked at her in shock by seeing her appear to them out of nowhere. "Hello there. I overheard you guys talk about a Mike and a El?" She said, out loud this time.
One of the kids, a boy who looked very serious, raised an eyebrow, "Uh, who are you and why should we tell you about our friends?" He asked.
Rey then explained who she was and how she knew about Mike and El and about El's death and Mike being upset. Then she showed them her tattoo and showed her shapeshifting since they already saw the telepathy and teleporting. When she was done showing them, she wiped a little bit of blood dripping from her nose before saying, "I knew Eleven in the lab, just as I knew plenty of others like us. What I need to find out is the secrets of Hawkins Lab and why they are doing this. If you guys knew Eleven, maybe you could help me out. And I can help you guys out with Mike. What do you guys say?"
The kids looked at each other and huddled up to discuss the deal. Rey waited patiently for them to respond. Once they were done talking, they turned back to her.
"We accept," they all said. Then they introduced themselves as Lucas, Dustin, Will, and Max. Rey introduced herself back and they went off together.
...
The five went over to Will's house so they could discuss everything there. Will explained that his brother and mother knew about all of this so it would be fine to explain it with them. They called over Joyce and Jonathan, who were both home, and they went into Will's room. The kids sat down on the bed while Rey, Jonathan, and Joyce sat down in chairs.
"So, from what I've been hearing around, Will disappeared a year ago, right?" Rey asked. Everyone nodded in agreement and Will looked a little uncomfortable with it. "Look, Will, I don't want to make you upset, but I need to know this information. Did the lab have anything to do with it?" She asked.
Will looked over at her straight into the eyes. "They made Eleven open the gate to the Upside Down, where a monster called the Demogorgon took me to," he said in a small voice. Everyone noticed that he looked upset at the mention of it, so Lucas and Dustin decided to take over.
"The Demogorgon is really from a game called Dungeons and Dragons. We just call the monster that. Basically it took Will to another dimension, the Upside Down, El helped us get him out and she killed the monster while disappearing in the process. Mike was heartbroken and he was upset. Not as upset as he is now though. We decided to go find El when it was close to the Snowball because Mike asked her to go with him and we surprised him by bringing her there," Dustin said.
"They were having fun and we all were until El collapsed. We took her to the hospital, where the doctors said she was dying due to toxic in her lungs for being in the Upside Down for too long. She died a few minutes after Mike said his final goodbye to her. Ever since then, he's never been the same. He loves her a lot, even in death," Lucas added.
