The Tunnels

Mike walked into the tunnels and looked around with his flashlight on. He cried out for El, hoping to get a response. He didn't get anything from her though, so he was starting to worry for her. If he didn't find her and save her, he didn't know what he would do with himself if he lost her forever. He couldn't lose her again.

The boy could hear noises all around the tunnels, but none of them really sounded like footsteps. Mike could tell that it was all the slime he was stepping on. He continued forward, not even caring about the slime, the goo, or how bad it smelled. The only thing he cared about was saving El.

After a bit of walking, Mike came across a large section in the tunnels. It was bigger than the normal tunnels and it was connected to all of them. He could see all kinds of bones covered by the vines that were on the ground. He stumbled back in shock of what he was seeing, not expecting to see something like that. It looked like a graveyard with the bodies lying all over it. He just hoped that none of them were El. He continued screaming her name, hoping to get a sign from her.

Finally he could hear something. "MIKE!" A voice cried out.

Mike gasped and continued to cry out, "EL! EL! IM HERE! IN THE FLESH THIS TIME!" He felt even more hopeful than ever.

"COMING MIKE! MIKE!" El cried back. Mike couldn't help but grin when he heard her again.

"I'M COMING TOO!" He yelled. Then he started to run into another tunnel to look for her. He could still hear her cries for him and he kept on yelling for her too. If she sounded distant, then Mike would go another direction, but if the voice was close, he would run faster. The tunnels felt like a maze to find the missing item in games Mike played, but this time it was real life and he was looking for a person who he loved instead of an item.

"MIKE WHERE ARE YOU?!"

"IM COMING EL! HOLD ON!"

The two kept on screaming for each other as they kept running through the tunnels, desperate to see each other with their own eyes and in person instead of being in the void.

Mike suddenly tripped and fell onto the ground. As he tried to get up, he felt something trying to keep him down. When he looked over to his leg, he could see them being wrapped up in vines from the ground. The boy started freaking out as he tried to get the vines off of him, but more and more kept coming. He started screaming for help from El as he kept on getting wrapped up by vines. One of them caught onto his neck and pulled him down as more started covering up his body.

"HELP! HELP ME!" Mike's cries for help started becoming choked out words as the vines held him down tight and squeezed against his neck. Another vine covered up his face as he started to pass out.

...

Eleven could hear Mike's cries for help from where she was. She started panicking, worried that something bad was happening. She ran faster than she ever had before and screamed Mike's name, but there was no response. Whenever there was no response, the girl grew even more worried than ever.

"MIKE! MIKE! MIKE!" El screamed. "MIKE WHERE ARE YOU?! PLEASE MIKE! BE OKAY! DONT BE GONE!" She kept on yelling as she ran through the tunnels.

Suddenly, she heard running footsteps through the caverns. El knew that it had to be Mike, so she followed the footsteps. When she got closer to them, however, it wasn't Mike. It was a creature with a mouth that looked like the Demogorgon's, but it was on all fours and smaller. El gasped when she saw it and backed up a little. The monster noticed her and started coming towards her. The girl quickly used her powers against it and snapped its neck. It fell to the ground, dead, and she kept on running to find Mike, wherever he was.

El stopped in her tracks when she saw four monsters surrounding a giant lump on the ground. She couldn't tell what it was, but she guessed that it was something or someone they were trying to eat. Just in case it was a person, she threw the monsters back with her mind and killed them one by one. Then she saw more coming in and she killed every single one of them. Blood started streaming down her nose and ears as she started to lose energy.

Once there were no more monsters coming, she knelt down by the lump, wiped the blood off her nose, and started pulling away the vines covering it. El gasped when she saw who was under the lump. It was Mike, who had his eyes closed and barely even looked like he was alive. El used her powers to throw the vines off of him so he wasn't trapped under them. Then she shook him to try and wake him up.

"Mike! Mike! Mike! Wake up! Mike! Don't go! Please Mike! I love you Mike!" El said as tears started coming into her eyes. She didn't know how to wake him up, but she hoped that she was doing it right because she didn't want to lose him.

After a few more minutes of shaking him, Mike took a breath, sat up, and started coughing out slime. El gasped in relief and hugged him tight. It took Mike a moment to register what was happening before hugging her back. They were together once again, forgetting where they were, and they were happy once again.

The two pulled away, but remained close together. "I love you too, El," Mike said, smiling  at her as he took off the bandana around his mouth, and kissed her softly as she kissed back. He had been longing to do that for a long time since the Snowball and now it was happening again. Once they stopped kissing, they stood up and started walking together back to where Mike came from, holding hands tight.

They made it to the hole so they could get out. Mike lifted El up so she could climb out first and she helped him get up. Once they were both out of the hole, they kissed each other again and held each other tight.

"I missed you so much, El. You have no idea," Mike said.

"I missed you too, Mike. I don't want to leave you again," El responded.

Mike chuckled. "Even if you do, I'll always come back for you. I promise," he reassured.

El nodded. "Promise," she repeated.

The two lovers would never be separated from another again.
