The group all followed Hopper out of the Byer's house and into the woods. Jonathan carried the frozen Will and Nancy carried the unconscious Mike as they walked through the woods. They even had Dylan, Heather, Damien, and Jordan with them so they couldn't go back to the lab and report them. Everyone, except for Nancy and Rey, didn't know where they were going, but they hoped that it would be good enough to hide them from the Demodogs and the Shadow Monster.
After a few more minutes of walking, they all ended up in front of the cabin. Hopper opened the door and let everyone inside. They all put their stuff down as the police chief locked the door and they all sat down. Nancy laid her brother down on the bed and Jonathan laid his frozen brother in the bed of the extra room. Then the two joined everyone else in the small living room to discuss their plan.
"Basically all we need to do is get the Shadow Monster out of Will so he's free. Then we need to find a way to stop it from destroying the world. Any ideas on how?" Rey asked.
Everyone exchanged looks with each other to see if anyone had ideas. Then Joyce realized something and her eyes widened when she did. "When Will first started acting strange, he said that whatever is inside of him likes it cold. We keep giving it What it wants! We have to make it warm or hot instead! That might get it out of my son," she said.
Jonathan nodded in response. "I think mom and I should be the ones to do that. Will needs to be with people who he's more familiar with, and that's us," he suggested.
"I can help you out if you need someone else to help you," Nancy offered. Jonathan and Joyce nodded at her in approval. "But what can we do about these things? They can keep coming and find someone else to get inside of," She then asked.
"I know," El spoke up. Everyone turned to look over at her when she started to speak. "The gate is open. We have to close it. I can do it. I opened it, so I can close it," she said.
Dylan, who was standing in the back of the room, snorted. "Yeah, good luck," she said in a sarcastic voice. Everyone turned to glare at her as she continued, "The gate has grown a lot since you opened it. It's pretty much impossible to destroy it. Even the doctors can't destroy it."
El shook her head at the bad experiment. "Not impossible. I can do it. It will make me tired, but I can do it," she said.
Hopper looked over at her with a worried look. He already felt like a father figure to her and he felt like he needed to make sure that she was safe. This mission could probably do something bad to her and he couldn't let that happen.
"El, there are risks involved. If it's as huge as that bitch says, it could probably kill you," Hopper warned her.
El pressed her lips together and sighed. She looked away from everyone, not knowing what to say anymore. She wanted to do it to save her friends and the whole world, but if this could kill her, no one would let her do it. But she had to. There was no other option but to do it. She looked back up at everyone with a determined look. She was about to say something, but then she got interrupted.
"I'll do it," a weak voice said.
Everyone turned to look over to where the voice came from. A very weak looking Mike was standing at the entrance to the bedroom, grasping the wall to give him support. He still felt very weak from earlier, but since he overheard what El was saying when he woke up, he knew he needed to help.
"I'll close the gate. I can't let El do it and die," Mike said.
El got up and walked over to him and took his arm. She led him to the couch before saying, "I can do it Mike. I know I can. I don't care if I die. You'll be safe. I'm doing it no matter what," she told him.
Mike shook his head. "Not alone. If you're doing this, then I'm doing it too. We'll do it together. We'll show that gate what for together. And if we end up dying, then at least we'll still be together," he said, taking her hands. Tears started forming in his eyes as the boy continued, "I can't lose you again."
Rey came up to them and put a hand on Mike's shoulder. "You won't go in alone. I'll help you. I may not have telekinesis like you guys do, but I'll help protect you," she said. Mike and El looked over at her and nodded.
"I'll come with as well. You guys will need a police chief in there to help you out. There are still lab men in there," Hopper volunteered.
"I'll come along too," Bob then volunteered.
Joyce put a hand on his shoulder in concern. "Bob, it's dangerous. I know you're new to this, but you don't know the lab like we do," she said. She was worried about him, thinking that something could happen to him.
Bob shot her a confident smile. "I'll be alright. I'll do anything to help you and your family. Your boys may not have accepted me yet, but I'd still do anything for them. They already feel like my own sons I've never had," he reassured her. "Besides, this feels like I'm inside a comic book. I have to get in on the action." Joyce smiled at him and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
Steve then stood up with a look on his face. "Wait, that means I'm left with these shitheads? What are we going to do? I can't be waiting around here with children!" He said, complaining a little.
"And what can we do? Should we come to the lab?" Ryder asked, referring to him, Keelan, and Cat.
"You three can come to the lab. Steve, you're in charge of the kids until you come up with your own thing to do," Hopper ordered. "Wait, I have a job for you, Steve. Keep watch of those guys there. Don't let them escape and head black to the lab," he added in, referring to Dylan, Jordan, Damien, and Heather.
The four experiments moaned in response. Steve chuckled at their reaction and smirked at them. Lucas, Dustin, and Max looked annoyed because they wanted to do something to help. Instead, they had to sit around with Steve and evil experiments. Max especially wanted to do something. She wanted to go to the lab to help Mike and El with the gate, but she wasn't ready to reveal her secret. She bit her lip while thinking if she should volunteer.
"We'll close the gate, get the monster out of Will, and save the world," El declared.
"And we'll take down the lab once and for all," Rey added.
