Chapter 9

I walked home feeling numb but I refused to cry. My whole life had been a lie. I heard Tyler call after me a couple times but I didn’t feel like answering. I didn’t want to talk to him or anyone else right now. I opened the door to see Jensen finishing up the security system now installed in the wall. He looked over at me and smiled then it dropped and ran over to me “oh my god are you ok? What happened?” he asked taking my hand into his and I felt a small jolt run through me but I chose to ignore it even though he stiffened.

“You’re freezing and soaking!” he said as he went to wrap his arm around me and I automatically felt the need to push him away. I don’t need anyone else lying to me or getting close.

“I’m fine I just fell into some water, ill go dry myself off,” I muttered as I went up the stairs and grabbed a towel out of one of the boxes by my bed. I still have so much unpacking to do; I haven’t had any time though. I tried to remotely dry off my clothes as I sat down on my bed; I put my face in my hands trying to calm myself somehow. I heard footsteps and I looked up to see Jensen standing there awkwardly.

“Jensen?” I asked trying to get him to tell me what he was doing up here

“ I uh finished the security system, here’s our card if you think something is ever wrong” he said as he stared at his feet and I felt bad for being so cold to him earlier.

“Listen Jensen I’m sorry for earlier, I’ve just had a really long day and I didn’t mean to take it out on you” I said getting up next to him and taking the card.

He smiled “its fine but uh, I was wondering if you would want to go out to dinner sometime since… You know, I haven’t seen you in so long,” he said offering me a kind smile.

“Dinner sounds nice thanks for asking” I said and looked down at the card and saw he already had written a number down and I looked back up at him and he smiled

“I wrote it down just in case,” he said smiling at me. I laughed as I walked with him downstairs, as he grabbed his stuff I opened the door for him and he leaned over and kissed my cheek. My eyes widened and I heard a loud growl come from the kitchen to see a wolf walking over to Jensen. That was the wolf that lunged at me on the cliff. That’s Eric! He stalked down my hallway closer to Jensen and me by the door.

“Eric stop please!” I pleaded, “He’s not like you!” I said meaning he wouldn’t be able to defend himself; but evidently that didn’t matter because Jensen dropped his stuff as Eric lunged at him and I noticed something different about Jensen. The pupils in his eyes turned red and 2 large fangs shot out from his mouth, he grabbed Eric and fell back. I panicked.  I saw a large wolf form over Jensen and they kept rolling and growling and hissing at each other. At this point it looked like Jensen was enjoying this fight and had no intention of stopping.

“Jensen! Eric!” I screamed

I looked around and saw a hose next to my stairs. I grabbed the rusted knob on the side of the house and grabbed the green tube with mud decorating the side and I let out a loud whistle trying to get their attention. I started to slide a little bit of my thumb over the opening giving it more power. They both shot off each other and looked at me shocked.

“What the HELL do you guys think you’re doing in MY front yard?” I screamed beyond pissed

Jensen looked at me in shock his eyes turning back to normal as his fangs returned themselves back in his mouth. And Eric shifted and I closed my eyes and picked up my towel that I had left draped over the staircase and threw it at him.

“Alice I’m sorry” Jensen said

“I’m sorry” Eric murmured

I said nothing as I picked up Jensen’s stuff and handed it to him “thank you for your services”. I said and picked up the money Jensen had left on the table next to the door that I gave him. “But, you are no longer needed”. I said as I crossed my arms and stood at the porch watching him go into his car. I went inside and I heard Eric coming up behind me and I shut the door in his face. I walked over to the kitchen since I couldn’t remember the last time I ate. I took a pot and poured some water in it and set it on the stove. I heard Eric walking in but I refused to acknowledge him.

“Alice?” he asked standing in the entrance of the hallway. I didn’t even look at him but I knew where he was.

I reached up in the cabinet grabbing a box of noodles and setting it on the counter.

“Alice” he said this time more firmly and he was also closer.

I read the contents on the side of the box; no I wasn’t interested in what it said. I wasn’t even reading it but I wasn’t going to let Eric know that. He grabbed my elbow and forced me to turn around and look at him.

“What Eric?” I said in a bored tone

“Alice let me explain myself,” he said with a hint in urgency in his tone.

“Fine. Please, enlighten me” is said crossing my arms over my chest.

“Well I you see I walked in and I a saw you and Jensen and I saw him kiss you,” he said

“He kissed my cheek” I said confused “he was saying goodbye!”

“That doesn’t matter I should be the only doing that” he said with a little growl at the end of his sentence

“Oh excuse me last time I checked we weren’t dating”

“Doesn’t matter you’re my MATE” he yelled
