"Are you crazy?" Alice yelled as soon as they had gotten a distance away from the stunned kid.
"I go to school with him, he hates me!" Alice punched him in the stomach, still feeling an adrenaline rush from escaping.
"You think you're going back to school? I have been in your presence for only a few minutes and I already know that your life is as messed up as mine. I'm taking you away with me."
Is he kidnapping me? Is all that was running through Alice's mind, but she reluctantly agreed. She had nowhere else to go, and if she stayed she would be in a lot of trouble.
He smiled, and touched Alice's shoulder, which sent a shock of electricity through her body.
"Don't worry, you're with me now and you can trust me. I know what I'm doing." He replied, taking his hand off of her shoulder.
"What's your name even?" She asked, and looked up at him timidly.
"You can call me Kid." He smiled again, and Alice noticed that his smile seemed genuine. His eyes would crinkle up, and the corners of his mouth were turned up into the cutest smile she had ever seen.
"I'm Alice." She replied, still fixated on his smile.
"Follow me, Alice." He winked, "I mean, if you're up for it."
Alice scoffed and told him to get on with it. She followed him for what seemed like an hour. A really long, silent hour. But they arrived at an empty train yard, and Kid gestured to Alice that this was the place.
The train yard was deserted, but messy. Old clothes and bottles of alcohol were strewn all over the ground, and instantly it reminded Alice of her father.
There was a faint whistle of a train horn in the distance, and Kid smiled at Alice again. This time it was devilish, and filled with adventure.
He grabbed her hand, and led her down to the tracks so they were right on the edge.
"Follow my lead." He said, and Alice looked down into the distance to see that the train was approaching. It was going fast, and these next events happened so quickly Alice didn't even remember the moment in which her feet left the ground and she was swung up onto the train.
She collapsed into Kid who was holding them up on a ladder on the side of the train.
She didn't even have words for what happened, she just leaned against him and tried to catch her breath. Nothing was surprising her anymore. Kid had taken her hand by now, and led her to the top of the train, where they sat together just watching the scenery fly by.
"Why are you leaving too?" Alice asked, hesitantly.
"Family troubles. I've never fit in, or felt welcomed there and just recently they proved to me that I was right. So I left before they could send me away. My mother had me when she was only sixteen years old, so she's never really matured to the point of where she can take care of me right. It's too late now anyways. Do you see these bruises?" He asked, "They're from my father, he says that I act out too much in school and that this is his way of teaching me to be obedient."
Alice lightly ran her frail fingertips over his black and blue bruises that line his arms. She hadn't noticed this before, but they were there and they were bad. They sat in silence for a few moments before Kid cautiously stood up, and helped Alice up with him.
Kid held tight onto Alice's hand, and looked at her."We're going to jump." He stated, as if Alice had no say in it at all.
She looked at him, her eyes filled with filled with energy and fear, and just seconds before the train went under an upcoming bridge they jumped. The wind pulled them up, and then sent them crashing to the hard, dirt ground. Alice groaned, and rolled over onto her stomach as soon as she landed, and began cradling her now bleeding arm. Kid sat up, and crawled over to her. He wiped away the blood to reveal a small cut along her elbow."You'll be fine." He said, and pulled her up off of the ground.
They were in an area filled with such green grass it was almost impossible. Large, dark trees loomed over them, casting a shadowy look around the field.
"Where are we?" Alice gasped in awe at the view.
"Lets pick a direction, and find out." replied Kid. He didn't seem as surprised at the beauty of such nature.
"We can go anywhere, you know." He said, "we're on our own now."
