They had been walking for what seemed like days now, still not letting go of each others hands. It was like a constant motivation to get somewhere safe to protect each other. Because when someone you care about is involved, the situation seems as if it matters more to be fixed.
The roads were growing long and winding, with tall, dark trees looming over them.
Alice finally tugged on Kid's sleeve and told him to stop walking.
"I'm so tired, Kid. Can we please stop? We can make a fort in the woods." Alice followed her question with an exasperated sigh. She was already weak, and they hadn't had anything to eat in hours.
"We're never going to get anywhere if we stop." he retorted, in a manner which pissed off Alice greatly. He had done nothing but drag her farther and farther away from what she called home, and this whole situation kept getting ever more bizarre by the minute.
Alice turned off the road by herself and began down the steep grassy hill that was scattered with rocks, and the haunting shadows of trees that probably hadn't come in touch with humanity in years.

She heard a groan, and heavy footsteps following her, crunching in the leaves, and she continued to stumble down. The walk wasn't long due to the fact that the slope of the hill caused them to go at a sort of running pace.
Once they got to the bottom, they walked in complete silence for a few minutes with Alice still quite ahead of Kid. She wasn't angry anymore, it was a petty thing to be angry over anyways.

She stopped in the middle of a clearing and turned to face Kid, giving the impression that this was where she wanted to stay for the night. Trees loomed over them, creating a shadow that was somewhat comforting, like a roof over their home for the night.

Alice started gathering stray leaves, and other things she could use for a makeshift bed. Kid stood over her in a corner by the tree with the thickest trunk, just leaning on it and staring at her intently.

"Are you going to help me?" Alice asked, as she stumbled onto the ground in an attempt to bend over and collect more useful sticks.
He took a moment before answering with a simple smirk, and then proceeded to help her.
