"Hey, guys... David said awkwardly as he sat down.
Gabbie rolled her eyes and Liza faked a smile.
"Hello douch-" Gabbie started, but Liza quickly hit her in the arm.
"Come join us," Liza said fake smiling while glaring at Gabbie.
Alex just laughed as he put his arm around her and smiled. Gabbie instantly turned quiet and started blushing.
"We love a couple in this house," Liza said laughing turning away from David. It wasn't that she didn't want to see him, but she felt a little sad when she did.
David looked up to speak to Liza, but the teacher walked in. Alex returned to his seat next to David, and the girls sat next to each other in front.
"Saved by the bell," Liza whispered to Gabbie smiling.
"Or saved by the wicked f*cking witch of western California." Gabbie said rolling her eyes while Liza laughed.
"Well, this sucks..." David whispered to Alex, who had his full attention on the board.
"Please Dobrik, somethings going to happen and it's going to fall in your favor," Alex mumbled while constantly switching back and forth between Gabbie's hair and the teacher's lesson.
"I mean... picking up girls is your specialty," Alex said writing down the notes on the board.
"Not true!" David said rolling his eyes at Alex.
"And even so, those techniques wouldn't work with Liza," David said staring at her.
She wasn't smiling, she actually kind of looked like she was frowning. I mean if you asked David, he could probably tell you every detail about every facial expression Liza ever made while she attended.David watched her as Gabbie nudged her side making her smile. Smiling that beautiful smile of hers.
"Today we'll be doing group activities!" The teacher said smiling while everyone groaned.
"But you can pick your groups!" The teacher said rolling her eyes as everyone perked up.
Liza, however, groaned that time because she knew Gabbie and Alex were going to be together. And all of her other friends were in other class periods. She knew that David was going to ask and then he'd smile and Liza would forget everything and say yes.
"Okay go ahead!" The teacher said as she turned around. Liza turned her head as she saw Alex practically spider jump across a desk next to Gabbie.
She smiled while rolling her eyes as she walked back to David.
"Hey, loser," Liza said fake smiling.
"I'm sorry," David said looking at Liza.
"You're fine, I'm fine, we're fine!" Liza said smiling nudging David in the arm.
"Nothing to worry about," Liza said fake smiling as she turned around.
Yeah, nothing to worry about except the constant fear of public rejection.
Liza thought to herself as she looked ahead.
David smiled to himself. He hoped that the project involved after-school time. Being around Liza just made everything better, it was a perfect excuse to hang out with her after class.
"For this project, you will be pretending to be two people from the Harlem Renaissance. Does anyone know what that is?" The teacher asked looking around the room.
Liza slowly put her hand up, noticing that no one else was going to.
"The Harlem Renaissance was the peak for African Americans between the time of Slavery and The Civil Rights Movement. In Harlem, New York, thousands of talented African Americans were given credit and praise for their talents. You no longer had to be embarrassed to be black. At that time, it was a gift." Liza said turning a little red as she looked at everyone staring at her.
"Wow. Impressive Ms. Koshy.." The teacher said smiling.
"Impressive," David whispered staring at Liza, who of course didn't notice.
"You will work together as a team, to be two important people from the Harlem Renaissance that interacted. May that be negatively or positively, they would have had to have met. You all can start working now!" The teacher said.
"So. We can start working at my house this afternoon. I'll take you home from school. Um... yeah that's it." Liza said smiling as she packed her things.
"Listen... I'm really sorry for that. I don't know why I did it and I regret-" David started running his fingers through his hair.
"Regret holding my hand, or regret wiping it on your pants..." Liza said laughing before grabbing her backpack.
"No... Is that what you think?" David started concerned but Liza stood up.
"3..2...1..." Liza said smiling when a bell rang.
"See you all tomorrow! I expect the paper filled out!" The teacher shouted.
"Later loser," Liza said jumping up and messing up David's hair before walking out. She smiled but stopped and turned around.
"I noticed you weren't paying full attention... which is okay," Liza said handing him some notes while walking back out.
David grabbed the notes and blushed to himself. He watched Liza walk out of the room and into the library. He looked at the notes and checked for any hearts. He figured that if she'd drawn some help on that she still liked him. His heart was beating scanning the paper for some hearts. His heart dropped when he didn't find any, but then in the corner saw a bunch of little hearts sprouting out of the paper. David's heart rate went back to normal when he saw the hearts as he smiled. There was still a chance... He tiptoed into the library and stood up against the door. Liza was laying in an empty bookshelf row and watching youtube videos. David smiled as he just stared at her. He eventually built enough courage to walk over to her.
"Hey, Liza..." David said shyly smiling.
"JESUS CHRIST," Liza screamed caught off guard as she hit her head on the top of the bookshelf as she fell on the floor.
"God Liza, I'm sorry.." David said sitting above her running his fingers through his hair.
He is so freaking hot... Liza thought to herself as she blushed.
"I'm fine really," Liza said holding her head as she sat up looking at David in the eyes.
When she sat up they were inches apart just sitting in front of each other.
"So much for trying to have a cute entrance," David said smiling as he looked at Liza.
"Oh no you were adorable, sweetie, don't put yourself down like that," Liza said laughing as she held her head.
"You probably need an icepack!" David said concerned and frowning.
"David. I am okay, really!" Liza said smiling as she kept her hand on her head. She couldn't deny it. She liked feeling like David really cared about her."Liza..." David said scooting in closer and sliding her hand off of her forehead. Liza blushed and David looked at her and smiled.
Now we are getting somewhere... She doesn't look like she hates me... He thought to himself smiling.
"God, Liza it's bruising. You stay here and I'll go get an icepack." David said smiling as he walked out of the library. Liza pulled out her phone to see the bruise, and there on her forehead was a purplish bruise. Liza sighed as she started scrolling through her Instagram feed. Gabbie's profile came up and she was so deep into analyzing and spamming every picture with comments that she didn't even know that five minutes had passed. She wasn't in a tremendous amount of pain but it did hurt a little. She got up sighing, hoping that David didn't forget about her. She walked out with her backpack and checked her phone. Her phone lit up 11:40 and she remembered meeting up with Will. She pushed out the thought of David forgetting her out of her head and smiled. David was probably backed up at the nurse. He was backed up at the nurse. Liza kept her hand on her head and waved at everyone in the hallway. She seemed to be someone that everyone wanted to talk to, so Liza just smiled and waved at everyone so no one felt bad.
Liza finally met up with Kristen and Scotty.
"Hey, Liza," Kristen said smiling and flipping her hair dramatically.
"Hey, girl!" Liza said doing the same thing while laughing and still holding her head.
"Are you okay?" Scotty said smiling and pointing to her head.
"Oh yeah.. David was supposed to give me an ice pack, I just have no idea where he went." Liza said laughing before moving her hand.
"God Liza it is black and purple!" Kristen said running her fingers over the bruise.
"Okay, ow," Liza said laughing.
"I actually might know where David is, I'll be right back." Scotty said smiling as he walked away. As soon as Scotty was out of sight, She turned to Liza.
"Spill," Kristen said smiling.
"What on earth would I have to spill.." Liza said smiling as she walked over to the lunch table.
"WHO IS HE?" Kristen yelled but Liza covered her mouth.
Liza handed Kristen her phone with the selfie they took together.
"God he is beautiful... Only if you weren't madly in love with David..." Kristen said smiling and turning the phone around examining the picture.
"I'm not madly in love with David... just slightly intrigued by his presence.." Liza said smiling as she put her phone in her pocket.
"Yeah, okay. I used to look at Scotty like that, BISH I ain't blind." Kristen said rolling her eyes and smiling.
"You're annoying... Tell David I appreciate the effort! Bye! Oh and tell Gabbie and Alex not to make out during lunch!" Liza said laughing as she walked out.
"You're such a dork!" Kristen said laughing as she sat down at the table. Scotty came back a minute later and sat down.
"I couldn't find him..." Scotty said looking at everyone at the table. As soon as he said that,
David instantly ran up and to the table. He was out of breath and red from running. Kristen pulled out her phone and snapped a picture before quickly putting it back in her pocket.
"Where's Liza?" David said leaning on the table.
"Your girlfriend isn't here," Corinna said smiling and laughing.
"Aha Aha. Well, she got hurt and I have something for her! Does anyone know where she could've gone?" David said looking at Alex and Gabbie.
"I don't know... she probably went looking for you." Gabbie said laughing.
"No... she went out with a friend for lunch today." Kristen said smiling innocently. Gabbie and Corinna exchanged looks smiling at Kristen, while the boys stared at them confused.
"Oh... what's her name?" David said relaxing and calming down."The friend's name? His name is Will."
