Ryan and Mark had decided it'd be best for me to mostly wait on tables instead of pour drinks behind the counter. I didn't mind, as long as there was money in my pocket. Besides, waitressing was a piece of cake. There were three guys who worked in the kitchen preparing the food while Mark stood behind the counter from time to time, and when he wasn't there, a male by the name of Brandon took his place. I had chatted with him a few times and he seemed sweet.
"What can I get for you today?" I asked the pair at one of the tables, my notepad ready.
The boy looked at the blonde across from him and she cleared her throat while pointing to a hamburger on the menu. "Can I have a burger with nothing but ketchup, and a side of fries?"
"Sure, how would you like it cooked?" I asked her after writing her order on the blank sheet.
"Medium please."
"Of course," I smiled brightly, taking away her menu and looking at the boy with the shades. He wore a leather jacket and there was a tattoo on his neck that read 'Scarlett.'
"Nothing for me, just the lady," he told me, looking at her the whole time. I nodded and took his untouched menu. After I put in her order, I took a seat at one of the bar stools since there wasn't much business. Brandon walked over to me with a glass of water. I thanked him and chugged the entire glass.
"You're lucky you aren't working tonight," he started, sipping on a glass of his own. "Tonight is when a local gang likes to come in and get together. It gets crazy; they rent out the entire place for just them."
"I'm sorry, a gang?" I coughed and he nodded with a chuckle.
"Yeah, but don't worry. Hunter already told Ryan to not have you work these nights."
"Why?" I couldn't help asking. He only shrugged and started for a customer that just sat down. One of the chefs rang the bell behind me so I took the hamburger and fries to the blonde girl at the table.
When I got there, the two weren't talking and the girl was looking out a window while the man still stared at her. Even though he wore sunglasses (inside might I add) it seemed to me he was looking at her as if she were the most precious thing in the world to him.
I set the food down which struck her from her daze. She smiled up at me and passed me a warm 'thank you.' I asked if anything else was needed and she answered with a 'no.'
"So what got you to work here?" Brandon questioned me when I returned to the counter and he was finished with his customers.
"Actually Hunter brought me in yesterday and the boys gave me the job," I answered.
"Why'd you move out here? And especially with Hunter?" He added a laugh.
"My friend Casey was moving in with her boyfriend and I sure as hell didn't want to live with them. Casey has no shame when it comes to the bed if you know what I mean. So her boyfriend knew Hunter and he needed a roommate anyways."
"Cole," he said and I gave him a confused look. "Your friends boyfriend. Yeah we're all pretty close."
"Oh," I nodded.
After a few more hours, Hunter was waiting outside for me so I clocked out and stepped through the doors. My roommate was smoking a cigarette while leaning against his vehicle. A girl with red hair and a tight pair of shorts was talking with him. She seemed heated with her arms crossed but he stood there calm as ever. She said something but he didn't answer so she sighed. Hunter then pushed her away and threw his cigarette to the ground then stomped on it with his boot.
