Chapter is a bit different since it will be in Casey's POV!
Casey
I was beyond grateful for Zoe as she rescued me from hell, took me in and got me a job instantly. Of course Mark and Ryan interviewed me first which didn't take long for them to tell me I got the job. My first night at Zoe's was hard for me to fall asleep but when I did I woke up feeling refreshed as if it were the best sleep I had in the longest time. I couldn't help but constantly check my phone to see if Cole had texted me at all which he didn't. It wasn't for the fact that I missed it, I was only curious to see if he had missed me. The Gods were telling me to never return to him.
Working at the bar was easy and with my best friend training me it made things fun. I only ever had one job before which was at a Hooters where I made most of my money in tips. The job only lasted a week when my parents finally found out I didn't actually work at a diner like I'd lied about.
I listened to Zoe's advice and stopped replying to Brandon after she had explained her disappeared on her when that stalker showed up. With knowing about the gang Hunters father led I didn't want to get mixed up with anymore bad guys. Zoe was lucky enough to have Hunter who had no choice but to be in the group. I knew he wanted out but the only way he could leave was if the two of them were killed. It made my stomach turn just thinking about it.
"Casey can I see you for a moment?" Ryan appeared from the kitchen. I followed him down a small hallway and into a tiny office room with no windows and only a desk, two chairs and a bookcase filled with unorganized files.
"How are you enjoying your second day?" Ryan asked me with his deep voice. When I had first met Ryan I immediately noticed his deep scar and wondered where that had come from. I knew him and his brother weren't a part of the gang so what had he done to earn that.
"I'm comfortable here and I'm getting the hang of things," I let him know. He wasn't the type to smile but I saw him struggling to get his lips raised the smallest bit.
"Good to hear. On another topic, has Cole been bothering you at all?"
Why did he ask? "No," I answered truthfully. "Hasn't even texted me actually. Prick."
Ryan chucked. "Good to hear. And Brandon? You haven't been communicating with him correct?" Zoe must have told him.
"No I've been ignoring his texts."
"Good, I had to let him go due to the fact that he hasn't been showing up for work."
I knew right away that he was lying when he broke eye contact and stretched back in his chair.
"Now it's time for me to ask you a question," I announced and his eye brows rose but he made no move to stop me. I couldn't find the words so I only pointed to my cheek where his scar would be and he nodded in understanding.
"Ah yes my famous scar," he began. "Well, a while back I had been in love with this amazing girl. She was everything I ever wanted with the most beautiful features and outstanding personality. Her red hair. Those beautiful green eyes." I had red hair. I had green eyes...
"She was feisty and outgoing which I loved." I was feisty and outgoing! Damn I bet I would have loved this girl too. "Anyways," Ryan continued while clearing his throat and looking down at the desk. "I had asked her to marry me one day and that's when everything changed. Her attitude towards me changed. I'd come home from work and she'd have nothing done. Mind you she only worked part time so she would get home much earlier than I. She wouldn't cook dinner or clean, only watch TV and wait for me to return so I could cook. Then we would always be arguing about the dumbest shit. I told her if she didn't love me anymore to just leave so that night she packed her things and was ready to walk out of my life but of course I tried to stop her. She grabbed a lamp and smashed it on my head. I blacked out after that and woke up to a bloody knife next to my head, my true love gone...and this scar."
By the time he'd finished I was completely in shock. One due to the fact he seemed unfazed while telling his story, and two because I was heartbroken for him. Ryan seemed like a good guy that deserved way better than that bitch. I take it back, I wouldn't love her I'd despise her.
"Ryan that's terrible. Oh man if I was there I would have beat the crap out of her! No one deserves a heartless person like that."
"I'm just glad I didn't get to marrying her. Going through a divorce seems like a real bitch."
"I guess we've both had our shares of crazy relationships. I mean yours was obviously worse but—"
"I understand," Ryan cut me off with a laugh. This time his smile was real and it had me smiling knowing he could still be happy to this day after what he went through. It told me that I should be happy and continue on with my life even though Cole had torn me.
"You know what," I started. "We both will find someone nice. Those two were just bumps in our paths. Smooth sailing from here my friend."
"I hear you loud and clear," Ryan beamed.
