Zoe
It was Saturday morning and sadly I was stuck at the bar twiddling my thumbs waiting for a customer. Mark was off somewhere but Ryan was in his office where he had been since I got here. He never even came out to greet me but one of the cooks informed me he was defiantly in there. Casey wasn't home when I left but she wrote me a note to say she was going to be out for a while and would be home soon.
I'd told her what happened with our break-in incident and she was so worried I'd been hurt that we never had the time to talk about the tiny yet noticeable hickey on her neck. I assume she knew I'd be staring at it by how much she was turning her head so I couldn't see that side of her.
Hunter convinced me not to worry about the situation where his father is setting him up. He told me he'd deal with it by himself and for me not to even think about it. But that was hard! I wanted to be in the loop and know everything that was going on but at the same time I didn't. It was peaceful enjoying the air when I knew no one was out to get me. To be able to relax with my friends and enjoy going out in public by myself.
I was sprung from my thoughts when the bar doors finally got pushed open and in stepped Scarlett, the girl who had escaped the gang with her boyfriend for a price. Instead of sitting at her usual table she sat at the bar near me and greeted me with a smile.
"Hey there Scarlett," I spoke out.
"How are you Zoe?"
I decided to lie. "I'm good how about you?"
"Great actually. Tony and I are finally getting the hell out of here." Tony was Scarlets boyfriend who was an ex member of Drakes gang. They were let free when Tony had to kill his father who was ready to be treated for cancer. It was a sick and sad story that was stuck with them forever.
"We finally saved up the money to afford a cute little house down south," she informed me. "I'm so excited. Living here has just haunted me with the fact that Tony had to do what he had to do to protect the both of us."
"I think moving is going to be so good for the two of you," I told her truthfully.
"So good! I'm already planning on having little babies and maybe even adopt a puppy or kitten. Oh Zoe it's going to be great."
Suddenly I felt a wave of jealousy even though I was completely happy for Scarlet. She deserved this. But at the same time I dreamed of getting away from this mess and moving away with Hunter. Our problem was they would come after us and when they found us we'd be dead. So we'd be running our whole lives and that wasn't something I wanted.
"I wish you the best of luck," I pulled off my best smile. "When are you guys leaving?"
"Well we have some more things to pack up so maybe a few days. I just wanted to come by and say my goodbyes to you. I know if we got to know each other better we could have been great friends."
Scarlet was right and I had wanted to get closer with her. But now that she was moving that would be difficult. Maybe it was better if her and I didn't become friends though because I couldn't have her getting sucked back into the gang situation.
"I also came by to-" she was whispering and then stopped herself to lean in closer. "Ask if you'd want to come with us."
"What?" I bellowed.
"Yeah, you could stay with us for a while there's a spare bedroom. You could find a job down there and save up for your own place! I know you don't know us that well but anything to get you out of this place."
Her offer was tempting enough for me to almost burst over the counter and hug her. But Hunter and I were getting closer now and if I were to leave him alone I'd feel so guilty. But on the other hand my life was in danger as well and an opportunity like this wasn't going to swing by again.
