Being the new girl

"Mum, I, Ugh..."
"Well I'm taking Emily to the hospital in a moment so go home...take your friends if you must but go home so I know you're safe please!"
"Ok..."
I looked over at everyone and we trailed off home. I felt pretty embarrassed, mum never usually minds if I leave school as long as it doesn't happen often.
"Sorry guys, I don't know why my mum acted like that..."
"It's fine girl." Aimee put an arm around me. As we walked out of the park, a girl I haven't seen in a while but knew for years -Leila- traipsed past looking awestruck at everything around her. We went to the same primary and high school but she moved half way through year 7. I giggled slightly and ran up to her, hoping she still remembered me.
"Hey Leila!"
She spun around a bit shocked but then a smile instantly grew on her face.
"OMG Katie! It's been forever!"
She ran up to me and we hugged for the first time in about 2 years. It felt so nice to see a familiar face.
"What are you doing here? I mean it's amazing to see you!"
"Aha, you're mum didn't tell you? I'm living with you for a bit and moving to Fallwood High School."
"What why?"
"I'll tell you later...."
She glanced over at the others who were just standing there waiting to come home with me.
"Oh this is Aimee, Amber, Mia, Grace, Amber. And this is my boyfriend Rhys and Grace's boyfriend Mack. Guys this is my life long best friend Leila. We haven't seen each other in years."
Leila looked excitedly at everyone and they all laughed. I linked arms with Leila and held hands with Rhys. Amber walked with Mia, Grace with Mack held hands down the street and Aimee claimed she had a date with Ross (surprise surprise).
As we got back to my house, I went straight up to my room to change out of my uniform and dump my bag. I gave the girls some clothes but the boys ran home to change. When they returned Dan and James were with them.
"So Leila, what brings you here...Oh hang on tell me later. These girls are so nice I'm sure we can squeeze one more in our friendship group, right?"
All the girls nodded enthusiastically but the boys just rolled their eyes and glanced at each other.
I heard a knock at the door so went to see who it was.
"Hi Katie could we talk?"
"Um sure come in..."
