Chapter 23 • Let's Go Out

Mackenzie's POV

"Come one Kenz! I need something for New Year's Eve, you're coming with!" Maddie insisted.

I groaned and looked up at her.

"Fine, let's go out," I give in.

She smiled happily and pulled me off my bed. Dragging me downstairs and to her car.

Reluctantly I take the passengers seat and buckle up. Waiting for Maddie to start the car because holy shit it's cold.

"Please, start the fucking car. My tits are freezing," I joked.

She started to laugh hysterically, starting up the car. Turning on the heat up high, she started to drive to the mall.

"What are you doing for New Year's Eve?" Maddie asks, starting a conversation.

"Probably going over Lexi's house with everyone else and sleep over. What about you?" I question.

"Party at Chloe's house. Of course I'll be with Jack but, still it's a party. It'll be fun," Maddie replied. "You going to drink?"

I look away. Trying to avoid her question. Pretending like I didn't even hear it.

"I know you heard. So I'm going to take that as a yes," Maddie stated. "Just don't drive or do anything stupid. Please?"

I turn my head towards her. Giving her an "Are you serious?" Look.

"I won't, I promise. And same goes to you."

She chuckles and glances over at me.

"I got your back and you got mine," she smiled.

I smiled back and leaned back in the seat. Relaxing a bit more. I looked out the window and watched the scenery pass by.

New Year's Eve is two days away. My friends and I have had our plan set since September. New Year's Eve is the few holidays we can spend with each other without our families. So, we go all out.

Plus, every year our parents go out of town since we were thirteen. Our siblings always had their plans with their friends. For the younger ones, they went to friends homes or went with our parents.

Eventually Maddie pulls into the mall parking lot. And even better, we got a spot close to the entrance so we didn't have to be freezing for too long.

"Come on, let's go," Maddie said, gathering her things.

I get my stuff together and take a step out of the car. Immediately I'm greeted by the cold air, blowing against my face.

It was an odd relationship I had with cold weather. I loved but, hated it.

Quickly, I made my way to the entrance. Maddie only a few steps behind me, I gratefully take off my jacket and throw it over my arm. Turning back around to my sister. Seeing she's doing the exact same thing as I am.

She smiled at me and stands next to me. Scanning the large open space filled with hundreds of people. Lots of loud noises, screaming children etc.

"Where to first?" I ask, as we began to stroll around the area.

"Let's check TopShop first, then forever 21, urban outfitters and then brandy Melville," Maddie explains.

I nodded and we began to make our way over to topshop. Walking through the crowd, weaving in and out. Between people and small children who keep disobeying their parents by running off.

As much as I love the mall, which I love the mall- the chaos and havoc of the people get to me. Especially annoying people, and parents who can't parent their own child.

It bothers me to a great extent. That's why a lot of the times when I'm here, I go to barns and noble every few hours to get a break from all- this.

"So Kenz," Maddie begins. "Is it a formal or casual party?"

"Formal- well, semi formal," I answer. "What about you?"

"Same thing," she replied looking up at the signs, trying to find the store. "So we're looking for dresses. At least that narrows it down."

I nodded and followed behind as we entered topshop.

Roaming around the store, we found things that we did like. However, weren't what we wanted and well- needed.

With that, we left and went to Forever 21. Which, luckily isn't too far away from TopShop.

"We might find something here actually," I state. "They always have something for New Years."

Maddie nodded, opening up the door for me.

We walk in and scan the store. Looking at the racks that we can see in front and around us.
Almost instantly I find my dress.

I run over to the rack and pick it up. It's a gold, sequenced tight fitting dress.

Smiling, I could picture wearing this, black tights and a pair of black heeled boots on New Year's Eve.

"This is it Maddie."

"It's so cute!" Maddie exclaimed. "Now it's my turn to find something."

I look around the store. Helping Maddie try and find her outfit.

"Hey Madz, what about this?" I question, picking up the clothing off the rack.

It's a sequenced tank top, with black leather pants.

I thought it'd be cute for Maddie. Plus she can wear a pair of gold heels with it to make it pop.

"Kenzie, it's perfect!" She smiled looking at the outfit.

I smiled weakly and hand it over to her. Walking together to the register to check out.

In a way, I'm happy I agreed to go out today.
