Mackenzie's POV
I opened the front door to my house. It's the second week back to school after break. Today, Maddie had left school early so I had to walk home because nobody could drive me.
"Hey Kenz, how was your day?" Maddie asks, turning to face me, as well as Jack.
I rolled my eyes and walk towards the stairs.
"Fucking fantastic," I scoffed, running up the stairs and to my room.
I slammed my door shut and locked it. Plopping down on my bed and wrapped my arms around my pillow.
Today couldn't have been any worse for me. It felt like the whole day was meant just so I took the L today.
-
"Mackenzie wake up!"
I groaned and fluttered my eyes open. Looking up and seeing Maddie hovering above me.
"What?" I question, rubbing my eyes.
"You slept through your alarm. You have ten minutes to get ready," she informs.
It took me a moment to process what she told me. Then it finally hit me. Resulting in me jolting up and jumping out of bed.
I make a beeline to my closet. Tossing on a red hoodie that belonged to Johnny, jeans and vans.
I run over to my bathroom and do my hair. Putting it in two French braids then brushing my teeth.
When everything was all said and done, I grab my things and rush downstairs. Stopping in the kitchen to get a water bottle and an apple then running out the door.
I get in Maddie's car and pant heavily. God, I need to work out more.
"Nice, nine and half minutes. Not too shabby," Maddie said, looking at her watch.
I look over and chuckle a bit. Still trying to catch my breath.
I lean back and put my seatbelt on as Maddie pulls out of the driveway. Driving down to school.
-
I walk into school. Tossing out my water bottle and the apple.
I make my way to my locker. Fighting through the large crowd. Finally reaching my locker, I smiled weakly as I attempt to put in my combination.
But, it doesn't work. I groaned and tried again, and again, and again and again. Each time i tried, the damn thing didn't open.
Of course it wasn't until AFTER the bell rang when it finally opened. I quickly grabbed my books that I needed for my first period and ran to class. Even though, either way I was still terribly late.
"Ziegler, care to explain why you are late?" Mr. Taylor questioned, as I entered the room.
Of course like every other class room, everyone turned their attention towards me. Making me a thousand times more embarrassed than ever.
"Locker problems," I answer nervously.
He gives me his stank eye look. Knowing in a way he's doing it just to mess with me. It still doesn't make me feel any better.
"Alright, I'll accept it. Now sit down," he said.
I nod and walk over to my seat between Carson and Brynn.
"What happened?" Ashton questioned.
"My locker wouldn't open and I woke up late," I whispered, getting my things out.
I take a deep breath and turn my attention towards the front of the class. Making sure I take as much notes as possible. Hoping in the back of my mind that my day gets better.
-
Well, the hopes of my day getting better was complete shit. I ended up getting back my math test. A test that I failed.
Now half of my friends have gone home, as well as Maddie and I don't have a ride home from school.
The boys have practice, Annie had a doctors appointment, Lexi has a meeting, Brynn just left because she didn't want to be here anymore, and if that was the case, I would've left with her and Ruby was doing something with her sister.
So now I'm stuck walking home.
I walk to my locker and attempt to unlock it for the fifth time today. And of course, it doesn't open.
"Son of a bitch," I muttered.
After I try two more times I officially give up and start to walk to class. But, I accidentally run into someone. Someone, I definitely didn't want to run into.
"Watch it ziegler!"
I sighed and looked up, (being that I was the one who fell to the ground). I see her. I hated her.
Her name is Jojo Siwa. She's on the cheerleading squad with us. Needless to say, she despises me. Mostly because I got on the team because my sister is head cheerleader.
"It was an accident," I say, standing up.
"Ya sure it was. Just watch where you're walking next time. Or you'll regret it," she threatened.
I couldn't help but to laugh. She's tried to threaten me in the past. It never worked. Mostly because Maddie and the girls took care of it.
"Oh okay," I chuckle, rolling my eyes.
What she did next took me by surprise, by punching me in the eye. I stumbled backwards in utter shock.
"That's the warning," she whispers.
-
I sighed and rolled over. Shoving my face further into my pillow.
"Kenz, you okay?"
I look up and see Maddie picked the lock and is now standing in my room. Jack standing right behind her.
I shake my head and sit up on my bed. Maddie walks over and hugs me. It wasn't until now that she realizes the black eye.
"Who the hell did this to you?" She shouts, turning my head so she could look at it.
"Don't worry about it," I mumbled, moving my face out of her hands.
"You're not pulling this shit, who did this?" Maddie argues.
I sighed and looked her in the face. "Who do you think?"
She gasps, "Jojo?"
I nodded.
"That bi-"
Then there was a pound at the window, making all three of us jump. I look over and see Carson.
I laughed and walked over, opening it up.
"You know there's a front door right?"
He nods climbing inside. "I know nobody was answering though."
We laughed as he sets his things down on my bed.
"I heard about your bad day and thought, well, maybe I can make my famous snow slushees and make it better," he explains.
I smiled and laughed.
He sounded like Johnny. Him and John would always make these snow slushees every time we had snow.
God I wish he was here. Just so I could hug him as tight as I possibly could.
Happy news years eve!
