5: The Howler

I couldn't believe my eyes. Another super being was in front of me. He wore a similar suit, instead with black, red and silver. He seemed to growl at the villain. He pushed him back, causing him to crash into the street. Making people scream. He turned to me and smiled and let out his hand. I slowly took it, unsure of what to think. He had ears and tail to complete his outfit and instead a sword, claws decorated his gloves.

"Now who in the world are you," The Shadow called.

"I'm the howler!"

I swear I just saw a police officer slap himself. I held myself from cringing at these horrible names.

"Well, I guess now I have two people in my way!"

"We won't let you destroy this city," I shouted. "If you want this city, you have to get through us!"

"Easy!"

He charged again but, before he could even touch my sword, the Howler grabbed his ankle and threw him. He crash landed in the row of police cars, causing the officers to scatter.

"Wow..."

"I know."

He yelled in frustration and a row of red swords were summoned behind him. He raised his hand. The Howler and I prepared to fight. He signaled them to go. As they were flying towards us, I thought to myself that we really couldn't survive this and if we did, the civilians behind us would get hurt. If the world was moving slower, I moved in front and soon, a blue wall formed in front. At the red swords hit, they were immediately gone with the wind. I realized I wasn't in control of my powers...it was Ekon.

Don't worry kid. Trust me.

The wall turned into dagger like things and fired right at The Shadow. Once they hit him, he fell to ground. Howler and I stood there, uncertain on what to do...

"I'll be back!"

Those were the last words he called out before, he ran off in a flash. After a moment of silence, an applause rained. The Howler and I looked at each other, unsure on how to respond. I raised my hand and he highfived it.

"Nice one!"

"T-Thanks."

We were soon crowed by reporters, people wanting to meet us. It was a bit over whelming.

"Sir! What just happened?"

"Do either of you know who that was?"

"Will he return?"

We looked at each other.

"No, no, and maybe," I say, trying to have everyone calm down.

"Are you the new heroes of Scaleswind City?"

"I wouldn't say that but-"

"Do you believe that The Shadow is a big threat?"

"Not for sure-"

"Is there anything you can tell us about your powers?"

"We wish," Howler replied. "Look, we would love to stay and chit chat but, me and my...partner have some business to discuss."

He grabbed my wrist and ran away with me. He soon stopped in an alleyway. I tried to catch my breath and wrap my brain around everything.

"Okay," I say. "That was-"

"Dangerous?"

"Y-Yeah but, energizing!"

He took a deep breath.

"But, seriously. Dude," He smirked. "You were awesome!"

"Are you kidding? You were incredible! Your claws and strength!"

"Your speed and power were breath taking! How did you do that?"

"My necklace," I say, pointing to it. "You?"

"M-My earring," He says, directing my attention to his real ear and not his fake ones. "I'm glad I'm not the only one!"

"Me too!"

We laughed and smiled at each other. I than noticed fiery red hair, matching his outfit.

"Cool costume," I say.

"Not to bad yourself. I might change mine though. You look way better~" Did he just...flirt? "Sorry. I didn't realize that I would become the sidekick of someone at attractive as you~"

He took my hand and kissed it. I blushed madly and yanked it back.

"Are you not interested in boys," He smirked.

"I-I am...but, we just met."

"You're right," He shrugged. "Besides, getting to know you will be so more interesting~"

I rolled my eyes.

"Look, if we are going to be a team, I need you to lay off."

"Deal, handsome."

"Ugh. Okay," I sighed. "I assume tomorrow there will be hundreds of reports on this. How about, tomorrow night we meet up and discuss information we found."

"Sure. Where?"

"How about...here?"

"Sure."

"What?"

"Can we do that cheesy hero thing with the rooftop meetings?"

Again, I rolled my eyes. I feel like this will be a common thing;

"Of course."

He dust pumped the air. We agreed seven o'clock tomorrow evening to discuss more. He was about to leave when e turned to me.

"It was pretty cool what you did there. Saving that girl."

"...I wouldn't be able to live with myself if someone innocent got hurt."

He smiled and chuckled.

"See ya later, Protector."

"See ya."

He ran off, leaving me alone. I decided to head home.

Just say suit off.

"Suit off."

I formed back into my old self. I smiled, satisfied with my day.
