I groaned as I fell onto my bed. Nobody was in here but me. Travis was at swim practice. Dante had soccer with Laurance. Katelyn had softball practice...Blaze? I don't know. Maybe too busy to keep me company. I looked up to see the bunk above me.
I hated having bottom bunk.
I sighed and got out of bed. I crawled onto the floor, which was a brown carpet that probably hasn't been clean in a decade. I didn't care at this moment. I just wanted quiet. No family. No friends. No librarian telling me to leave...I'm still salty about that. I was about to to just think until, my phone rang. I looked at the contact.
Mummy.
Great. Just what I need. My mother yelling in my ear and telling me to come home. I groaned and answered the phone.
"Hell-"
"How dare you not tell me!?"
My mother's voice was loud and scratchy. Like she's been yelling for a while. It wasn't usually like her.
"Am I on speaker phone...?"
There was silence.
"Correction. Hello everyone."
"Hi Garroth.", My brother, Vylad said softly. It was like he was terrified of something. "How's school?"
"It's good. We had a maniac break a window in the cafeteria today but, good."
"Don't play this off like it's some idiot's fault you're targeted by some super villain!", My father shouted. "Your mother and I got an email saying that you're not allowed at school until this whole thing clears up!"
"I didn't get that memo. I thought I wasn't allowed in the library.", I said, keeping my voice monotone. "Sorry for scaring you, if that's what you want to hear?"
"No! We want you to come home!", My mum exclaimed.
"You don't have to though!", I heard Zane yell in the background.
"I'm not going home.", I say.
"Why is that?", My father asked.
"Because. If Shadow doesn't get me, he'll destroy the city."
"Well, I'm glad you are looking out for others Gar.", My mother said sweetly. "BUT STOP BEING A FECKING HERO AND COME HOME!"
That...That was the loudest I've ever heard her scream.
"But, Mum-"
"Don't Mum me! You are coming home and that's final!"
I messaged the space between my eyes.
"Your mother is right, Garroth. You can't be the hero in this situation.", My father said.
"You have no idea.", I say, still messaging my eyes. "Okay...I'll book a flight if you put the money on my debit card."
I heard my mother sigh in relief.
"Thank Irene, we'll see you soon, Gar."
"You too..."
I hung up, banging the back of my head against the floor.
Are you seriously going home?
No. I lied, Ekon.
Oh...you bad!
Heh, I know. Now, let's get a plan figured out together, shall we...
