Getting Sick

Ruby’s Point of View

As guilty as I felt for spending Emma’s date with her date, but I had a lot of fun. After our little dance session, we just kinda sat there and chilled. We sang alone to the songs in our seats, and at one point I had my head on his shoulder. It was nice.

But sadly, the movie was over just as quickly as it had started, and soon enough, we were both exiting the theater.

When we were outside of the theater, Emma was standing, waiting for us.

“Where’d you go, Mark?” Emma asks, and Mark is quiet a second before he makes up a quick lie.

“Our movie ended before Ruby’s, and you were asleep, so I decided to finish it with her.” Mark states, and Emma looks over at me.

“Oh, yeah?” She asks me. Shit…

“Yeah. It was empty until Mark came in when there was about 10 minutes left.” I state, trying my best to tap my foot slightly, hoping Emma didn’t notice. Whenever I lie, I always have to tap my foot. It’s my tell.

Thankfully Emma didn’t seem to notice, and looked back over at Mark.

“And why did you leave me sleeping?” She asked, and Mark smiles at her.

“Because you look absolutely adorable when you sleep.” He states, and Emma runs over and kisses him.

“Oh Mark. You’re so sweet.” Emma says, still hugging Mark.

“So, what do you guys wanna do?” I ask, feeling like the third wheel.

“Mark, why don’t you come back over to our place?” Emma suggests, and Marks face seems to light up.

“That sounds awesome.” He says as we all begin to walk over to the car.

We find that even after the movie, it’s still pouring outside, so I quickly run over to the car, pulling on the locked handle, getting soaked as I wait for Mark to open up the damn car.

A see a smirk present on Marks face, but I really don’t think anything of it, since all I wanted was to get in the fucking car!

“Come on, Mark! Open the door!” I shout, and Mark finally open up the car. I jump into the back and shiver, the cold rain settling on my skin, soaking through my jacket.

Mark and Emma made it to the car shortly after me, and Mark still had the stupid fucking smirk on his face.

“What the hell’s so funny, you ass?” I ask him, and he breathes out a laugh.

“Oh, nothing. You cold there, Ruby?” He asks, and I just roll my eyes and plug in my headphones, pretending to be mad at Mark. I wasn’t mad at him, but if I got sick, I would be furious.

I listened to a song or two before we pulled back up to the house. I quickly ran out of the car and jumped into the warm house, running up to my room to change into something not completely soaked in rain water.

When I open up my closet I pull out a pair of black fuzzy sleep pants and a black tee shirt. I put my laptop from my bed and onto the charger. I make my way back downstairs, but not before pulling my soaking hair into a pony tail.

As I approach the living room, I see Mark and Emma making out on the couch. I make a disgusted face and giggle.

“EW! Get a room you two!” I shout, and Mark quickly pulls away from Emma, a deep red blush present on his face.

“Just kidding!” I smile, and plop down on the chair to the left of them, grabbing the TV remote. They both kind of stare at me, and I give them a confused look.

“Oh, do you want me to leave?” I ask, and Emma just bursts out laughing.

“No, we want you to stay!” Emma replies sarcastically.

“Perfect! That was my plan!” I reply, and we both laugh. Mark just kinda sits there awkwardly, and it’s kind of adorable.

We all sit there in an awkward silence after a while, so I decide to get up and leave those two alone.

“Well, I’ll leave you two too…” I pause in the middle of my sentence as I sneeze. A small smile spreads across Marks face, and I give him the death glare.

“You did not…” I say, and Mark gives me a fake innocent look.

“What? What did I do?” He asks, and I sneeze again.

“You got me fucking sick! I’m gonna kill you!” I run over to him, but Emma stands up and holds me back.

“No, you will not!” Emma states, and I plop back down on my chair, pretending to be defeated.

“Fine. You win this round, you lucky son of a bitch.” I say before I sneeze again.

“God damn it!” I reply, and both Emma and Mark laugh.

“You laugh now, but you two will be the ones taking care of me tomorrow.” I say, and we all laugh. There was another awkward silence before Emma holds up the remote and suggests we watch a movie.

“So, what movie do you guys wanna watch?” Emma asked, and I instantly open my mouth. But, no words came out. Only another sneeze.

“Damn it!” I yell, and I can see Mark laughing at me when I look over at him.

“Oh shut up.” I spat, and Mark instantly stops laughing.

“I’m sorry, Ruby. I didn’t mean to be a jerk or anything.” He says, looking down at the floor, and I sigh.

“It’s fine. I just, don’t like getting sick.” I mumble, and we’re all kind of quiet for a minute. Then Emma speaks up.

“How about we watch ‘Finding Nemo’? Ruby, I know that’s one of your favorites, right?” Emma asks me, and a small smile manages to creep its way onto my face.

“Yeah. I mean, if no one minds.” I say, and Emma and Mark both smile at me.

“It’s cool with me.” Emma says, and looks over at Mark.

“And I’m cool with it too.” Mark smiles at me, and I can’t help but blush.

“Then let’s start this bad boy!” Emma replies as she searches through Netflix until she finds it and starts it up.
