Emma’s Point of View
Mark seemed slightly…. Disappointed when he saw Ruby leaving. Which made me confused.
“Mark…?” I ask, and he looks over at me, smiling.
“Yes my love?” He asks, grabbing my hand, but I pull it away. Mark gives me a confused look. “Emma, what’s wrong?”
“Mark, you seem so… upset that Ruby is moving out. Why is that?” I ask, and Mark just gives me a look.
“Honey, I’m only upset because you kicked your best friend out because of me. I just feel… bad. Like, I ruined your friendship.” Mark says, looking down at the ground.
“You didn’t ruin our friendship. I’m sure she understands. I mean, this is a new chapter in our lives. It was bound to happen.” I say, but Mark still looks upset.
“But you have known Ruby for years! We’ve only been dating for, what, a few weeks? How could you make a decision like that so quickly?” He says, and I grab his hands.
“Because Mark. I know you’re the one for me.” I say, kissing him on the lips.
“I love you.” He says.
“I love you too.”
And that night, we just spend the whole rest of the night cuddling, talking, and in the end, we fell asleep together.
The first thing I heard that morning was Mark whispering a “Good morning Sunshine.” In my ear, and I slowly open my eyes and smile.
“Hey baby. Good morning.” I say, and Mark kisses me on the forehead. I was still lying on the couch, but Mark was crouching in front of me, still wearing the same clothes as he was yesterday, a pair of basketball shorts and a black shirt.
“Come on sleepy head, you need to eat before you leave for work. So come on. I already made you breakfast.” Mark says, and I just groan.
“I don’t wanna…” I mumble, and the next thing I know, Mark is picking me up and carrying me to the kitchen, setting me down on one of the chairs. “Thanks.” I giggle.
“But of course.” Mark smiles, sitting across from me as I ate the eggs and bacon he made me.
“So… I figured that on my lunch break, we could go to ‘Jewels’ and, I don’t know, have a little lunch date." Mark gave me a look suggesting that that really wasn’t a good idea. “What? Why are you giving me that face?”
“Don’t you think Ruby’s, I don’t know, pissed maybe?!” Mark slightly yells.
“Oh come on. You don’t think she’s really that mad, do you?” I ask, know that Ruby can forgive people easily.
“Oh, I don’t know. It’s not like she was bawling her eyes out trying to find a place to stay at, threw her key at my face, and then called us bitches or anything!”
“Mark, seriously, calm the hell down. Everything is going to be fine.” I say, getting up from my seat to put my plate in the sink. “Don’t worry. And if she isn’t, then she’s going to be mad at you, not me.” Mark gives me a look of slightly gilt when I say that. “Mark… is there something you would like to tell me?”
“W-What?” Mark stutters.
“What did you do to Ruby?” I ask, crossing my arms to show him that I was not happy with him.
“I… I didn’t do anything to Ruby. I just feel like she’s going to be mad at me, because I’m the one who came in between you two.” Mark says.
“Mark, I told you, everything is going to be fine. People move on sometimes. That’s just called life. Not all friendships are meant to be.” I say, trying to comfort Mark. I honestly didn’t want him to be that upset over this. I mean, he was the first boyfriend I’ve had that never hit on Ruby.
“Are you sure?” He asks, looking into my eyes.
“Of course I’m sure.” I said, but now I wasn’t so sure if I meant it. I mean, Ruby was fun and happy go lucky, but she could hold a grudge if she really wanted to. But I decided to leave that part out…
“Alright then. I’m going to head back home, shower, change, upload a video, and then I’ll meet you at the café around two. Is that cool?” I looked at the clock in the kitchen to see it read ten AM.
“Yeah, that’s cool. See you then. Love you.” I said, and Mark kissed my cheek.
“Love you too.” He said before walking out of the door.
Ruby’s Point of View
I was trying to do some busywork during work, since the café was slow today. But as much as I tried to distract myself with work, my mind kept wondering back to all the shitty stuff that’s been going on lately. And having Jasper yell at me constantly really wasn’t helping.
“Hey freeloader.” My brother called me. “You have customers.” I just sigh as I try to pull myself together before walking out onto the floor. Once I composed myself, I whipped out my notebook and walked out to my table.
“Hi. My name is Ruby and I’ll…” I stop, looking up from my notebook to see Emma and Mark sitting at the table. “What the hell are you two assholes doing here?!” I snap, now frustrated.
“Ruby!” I hear my asshole of a brother yell from the counter. “That is not how we treat our customers.” He smirks, and I feel my eyes well up with tears. Mark seems to find this amusing, because he smirks as well.
“Y-You know what?! I’m done! Fuck you all! Fuck you!” I look at Jasper. “Fuck you!” I look at Emma. “Oh, and especially fuck you!” I scream at Mark, tears now streaming down my face.
“Ruby!” Pearl runs over to me, grabbing my wrist, but I rip it out of her hand.
“No!” I shout. Thank God there was no one else in the café. But even if there was, I don’t think I would have cared. “All my life, all I’ve ever had to deal with was other people’s shit! Well I’m fucking done with it!” I yell, hot tears making it hard to see as I run out the door and into my car.
I just sat there in the driver’s seat of my bug for a few minutes, crying and taking my anger out on my poor steering wheel. I did, though, manage to pull myself together, and I almost thought about walking back into the café. I didn’t know what to do, honestly. I could either go back inside and act like nothing ever happed, or I could go home and try to calm down some more.
As fun as it was, I didn’t want to have two emotional breakdowns in one day, so I decided to go home.
The drive to Pearls apartment was actually quite nice. It gave me a lot of time to think, and I thought about a lot. And the one thing that I really thought about was how much of a burden I was on my family. So when I got back to the apartment, I decided to do something I should have done a long time ago.
