Ruby’s Point of View

Ruby: So Mark… How did it go?

I texted Mark a few days after he told me he was going to propose to Emma. I laid in my bed, listening to old Maroon 5 songs that reminded me of Mark. Which was a lot of them.

Mark: It went fantastic! She absolutely loved the ring, and she said yes!

I kept rereading the text, trying to comprehend what I was reading. Mark and Emma… Getting married… Tears began to well up with tears as I texted my response.

Ruby: Oh wow, that awesome! I am so happy for you guys. :)

Lies. I seem to be doing that a lot lately. So frequently that I’ve actually started to lose my tell. Like, I always tell Pearl I’m fine, when I’m really not, and I’m telling Mark how happy  I am for him.  And never once do I tap my foot.

For some odd reason, it took Mark forever to respond. But it didn’t matter how long it took. I still didn’t like what I read.

Mark: Thanks so much, Ruby. You’ve been a big help. Without you, I wouldn’t be with the love of my life.

More tears. I seemed to be doing that a lot lately as well, crying I mean. I know it’s, like, a natural thing, but I don’t know if it’s exactly healthy to cry about three times a week. Ever since Emma started to hate me, and Mark has been secretly texting me, my whole world has been going downhill. I was even starting to wish I never met the damn man. But I knew that wasn’t true. I loved him, more than anything else in this whole world. And I knew I had to get him back. Somehow…

Mark’s Point of View

I was laying alone in my bed, just passing the time by checking Twitter and Tumblr and other social media sites when I heard my phone buzz next to me.

Ruby: So… How did it go?

Now by that, I was assuming she meant the proposal, so I cautiously chose my words, taking me a minute to respond.

Mark: It went fantastic! She absolutely loved the ring, and she said yes!

As I wrote that text, I thought back to that night just a few days ago.

***Flashback***

“Emma?” I call as she walks into the house from her day at work.

“Yeah Mark?” She asks, smiling and walking over to me. She sets her purse down on the floor and wraps her arms around me, placing a kiss on my lips. I smile a fake smile, pretending to actually like this.

“I have a surprise for you tonight. So… Get dressed in something kind of nice, and meet me down here at around seven-ish, okay?” I ask, and Emma’s face lights up like a Christmas tree.

“Oh Mark, you shouldn’t have! I’ll be down in a bit!” She yells excitedly, rushing up the stairs to get ready, leaving me alone to my thoughts.

It was around six, so I decided to start getting everything ready. I made sure everything was packed for my surprised, and I especially made sure I had the ring. After checking a few times, I went upstairs to go change myself.

I was taking Emma on a picnic in front of the Hollywood sign, so I made sure to wear something nice, but not black tie nice. After searching through my closet, I decided to wear an orange polo shirt and a pair of kakis.

I made my way back downstairs, placing the ring in my pocket before going back into the kitchen to put the picnic basket in the trunk of my car. By the time I made my way back inside, Emma was walking down the stairs, wearing a simple black dress with a white outline and a sweetheart neckline. It went down to her knees, and she was wearing a pair of black flats along with it. Her hair was curled nicely, and she had a bit of makeup on. I mean, she did look really nice, but she wasn’t Ruby.
