Jackie's POV

I got Niall's letter earlier. I'm planning on calling him in a few minutes. I would've called him earlier, but I was busy with release papers, talking to doctors, and watching over Nick. He isn't really doing good. The nurse came in.

"Excuse me. Could I use the phone?"

"Sure. Just push nine before you dial."

"Ok thank you." I sat up in the chair and reached for the phone. I dial nine before pushing in Niall's cell number.

"Hello?" He sounds rushed.

"Hey."

"Um, sorry I can't talk right now." Does he not recognize my voice? Have we been apart for that long?

"Ok sorry Nialler. I'll call later." I hear shuffling at the other end.

"I'm sorry Jackie. I didn't realize it was you. Paul told us that if a number that we don't know calls then just say we're busy. How are you?" I smile and reach for Nick's hand.

"That's ok. I'm fine. My knee is fucking killing me." The nurse glares at me out the corner of her eye, then leaves.

"I'm sorry. So why do you have to stay there for a few weeks?"

"Here wait a minute. I have your letter." I grab it off the table. "Ya I'm fine. My knee hurts. I gotta see if someone can get me something for it. I miss you too. Oh and I'm staying here for awhile longer because of my friend. You remember I told you about Nick?"

"Nick, the one from Virginia?"

"Ya. Well he got hit pretty bad. I just want to stay to make sure he's alright. And god forbid if anything happens, I want to be the one to tell his family. I know him the best out of our barracks."

"Well I hope you both are ok."

"well he worried me the other day. He started spazing again. It just scared me." I could hear him sigh on the other end. "What?"

"I'm just so glad to hear your voice. Oh I don't think I told you."

"What?"

"That person that's been texting you called your phone. I changed the number, and texted everyone in your contacts and told them you have a new number."

"I thought they said that they'd do something worst if we changed the number again."

"Well they haven't done anything yet."

"What are you doing right now?"

"I'm sitting on the couch. I haven't really done anything today, I couldn't be bothered to."

"Surprise surprise." I laugh.

"Oh ya? What have you been doing today?"

"I signed my release papers. I talked to Nick's doctor. I got these bright blue crutches that look like the ones you had to use after your surgery. The nurse says I have to use them for at least a month or two. I went and packed up my stuff, said goodbye to the guys in my barracks. I changed into my suit that we have to wear when we're out and about. Then I got something to eat, cause I hadn't eaten anything all day yet. Now I'm sitting next to Nick's bed talking to you." I squeezed Nick's hand.

"Ok fine. You'v done more than I have today."

"So how are the guys?" He seems to pause for a second.

"They're good. You haven't written to them?"

"Mostly Harry. Sometimes I write to the other guys, but I mainly write to you and Harry."
