Chapter 37

Finding Strength

Elmo’s POV

After almost a decade of journey, again the consequences of my actions were the ones who will bring me down. I really thought I could now live peacefully with Julie and build a new life with her. Alas, I cannot escape my past. I am sorry Julie, but this time it’ll be for real, I may not be able to be with you again. Jean is not anymore with us to defend me. Besides even if he lived he will never be my counsel anymore. I guess this is it I have reached my end.

“Again, they wouldn’t accept Moe’s case.” Mavy said after calling some Legal Firms.

Exodus shrugged his head.

“Have you tried Clayton Utz?” Julie asked.

“Yeah, but they didn’t want the case also. They were actually the prosecutions’ counsel.”

“Shoot!” Julie reacted “Exodus, does Waldrich have any lawyers that you can ask?” Julie turned to her brother.

“We do have, but I am not sure if they could be of help. All of them are business lawyers, Waldrich himself is a corporate lawyer and has no court experience like you.” Exodus answered.

“How about you Louise?” Julie sounded desperate.

“I do some…”

Exodus halted Louise “Julie even though we can find a lawyer to defend Moe it will be hard for us to secure his acquittal. Unlike the past cases he encountered this one was known and published in the business world. Moe has always been a highlight in this incidents especially his transfer in Alleanza Assicurazioni.”

“But Jean was able to do it!” Julie said.

“But we are not Jean! No lawyer can be exactly like Jean!” Exodus scolded.

“Then what do you want me to do?” Julie answered.

Exodus went silent.

“We can’t just let Moe go to prison! We have to do something! He did it without any criminal intent he even wanted me to redistribute Cesare’s share!”

“We all know that Julie, but we can’t use it.”

Julie went silent and stood up and left Exodus, Mavy and Louise.

“Hey Jules! Where are you going?” Exodus called out

“I’ll do something to get Moe back! I just can’t let this happen to him.”

“Julie!’ Exodus chased his sister “You’re not thinking straight again! Listen! All we have to do is just wait and plan according to what might transpire.”

“Moe never did that when he was protecting me before! He gave up his pride as he hurdle the troubles alone to shield me from Jean. He never gave up on me even if he thought I was the cause of his family’s death. Elmo never gave up on me! I will never give up on him! I can’t just sit and wait!” Julie answered back “I love him! I’ll do everything to get him back!” She added.

“Julie…”

“Brother, please even just for this time let me do it my way.” Julie begged.

“Okay.” Exodus finally said.

Julie drove towards the precinct. There she saw Elmo sitting in the corner with his head down. She immediately asked for permission to meet and talk to him.

“Julie?” Elmo utter.

Julie embraces him, “Oh god! Don’t worry I’ll get you out of here.” Julie whispered.

Elmo gripped Julie with his arms “What?” Elmo surprisingly asked.

“Shhh! I’ll get you out of here!” Julie whispered again.

“No! No! Don’t Julie, don’t lose your way! Don’t ruin your life.” Elmo whispered back.

“But without you, my life still be ruined.”

“Julie…” Elmo touches Julie’s hand “Worry not, even if I will be found guilty, I’ll just have to serve my sentence, it’s just some few years.”

“No! It is not Moe! I can’t live my life a day longer without you!”

“I am sorry I caused you too much grief. I must face this Julie, this is the consequence of my acts.”

“Moe, please don’t say such things!”

Then the police officer interfered

“Ma’am your time is up. Mr. Magalona has to return to his cell now.” The police said “You can still meet him in a week or two during the trial.” He added.

“Moe, I’ll do everything to help you! We will still be together!”

Elmo forced a smile “Be strong Julie, be strong.”

Julie’s POV

I will be strong for you Moe! I have to be strong! I will not allow you to suffer. You’ve sacrificed a lot of things for me. You fought for our love; you were protecting me all along. I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING!

Elmo’s POV

Dear Lord, this day forth, I have to face the outcome of my actions and suffer the punishment that has long been delayed ever since I started my journey. I am really sorry for what I’ve done. But I am not praying to you to save my soul nor ask for anything favorable to me, all I ask is to protect Julie and those around her. Please comfort her in her times of troubles, and please give her the strength to stand up now that I may not be able to be with her side again. Dear Lord, thank you for letting Julie be part of my life, through her I learned and change a lot. She is my life; please don’t let any mishap befall on her. By tomorrow I have to accept what has been due to me.
