DOTM Chapter 22 ~ Racing In The Rain ~

Nico's POV

The song Demons kept replying over and over on Autumn's IPod that she gave me. I felt the earplug falling out of my ear, I was about to put it back in until- "Nicaella?" My eyes shot open. Autumn stood there looking bored as ever. "You wanna playa game?" she asked with a dull face, blowing her fringe out of her face. I really wanted to leave camp, like, really. "Hey, your bored right?" I asked her and sat up straight. "Kinda." she replied, her eyes suddenly twinkled. "Why??" I stood and ran to the door, peeking outside, left and right. "Follow me, as stealthy as you can." I tip toed down and gestured every now and then for her to move on. We were nearly caught. Jason was out and about for some reason and we needed to get pass cabin 1. But soon enough, we were at Thalia's pine tree. "I'm gonna shadow travel, you know the drill." "Yup," Finally we appeared in the streets of London, not too crowed, not to vacant. Unluckily where we spawned, it was raining. Autumn grabbed my arm. "Have you ever played in the rain before?" she asked with a huge grin on here face. I shook my head, i've been in the rain, but not played. "When I count to three, we run out onto the road." She said with a huge grin on her face. I looked around, and spotted some skateboards. "Do you know how to skateboard?" I asked her, she looked in the other direction and dropped her jaw, "are you thinking what I'm thinking?!!" I nodded and we raced to the boards. I picked the black and neon red one and Autumn snatched the black and neon white. "This is gonna be awesome, I hope my balance is good." "Same goes with me." I knew it was crazy, I only tried skateboarding twice while Bianca watched, and I was pretty good even for the first try. "It's time to test my luck." I mumbled. "3, 2, 1" she mouthed. My right foot swept across the ground and back onto the board. Soon enough Autumn and I was skating side by side. The wind blew past our face and for the first time in forever, I didn't feel caged, locked up, I felt free. "This is so awesome!!!" She didn't reply back.  I looked at her, Autumn had a hard time making sure her hat didn't fly, and her hair kept messing in her face. Unfortunately, there was a lamp pole awaiting. "Watch out!" "Oh-my-macaroni." I managed to kick her board the opposite way and instead, it ended up me being smacked face first. I fell back on the ground. "Jeez....." Then Autumn started calling out, "Nico, where in Hades did you go?" I rolled my eyes, shes just acting dumb. Then, she stepped on my foot. "I'M HERE!" I yelled. She looked down. "Oh dude, SORRY! You okay?" "I need a hand." I said, she put her arm out and I stood up without it. "Too late." "I don't think we should skate anymore." she suggested. "I agree, I don't want to get whacked by another evil lamp post." So, we started walking down the street.

 <Lapse of the Time>

 "I've been asking Selene some things, she said her step-sister is Khione...and maybe, I must have something to do with it."

"With what?" 

 "Do you know the reason our forest house was on fire?" Then it hit me, hard. I completely forgot about it.

 "I need to find my half sibling, Selena Beauguard."

 I hiccuped. "Bu-but she passed didn't she?" The rain was getting heavier, and I felt the drops marking my back.

"That's what they thought." She stopped abruptly, then turned around to face me. "Can I trust you?" A long pause,

 "If you trust me, I'll trust you."

 She exhaled, "Silena isn't truly the daughter of Aphrodite, only forced claim. Khione is her godly parent."

"Don't tell me your leaving." A feeling of panic started within me.

"Same reaction with Jason?" she patted my shoulder, even if she was a bit smaller than me.

"I'm leaving the day after tomorrow, I should enjoy these hours while they last, they'll be gone soon enough....I'll be gone soon enough." she faltered.

I stopped mid track. "Yo-you can't. I'll come with you if I have to."

She didn't reply. We were back at the same wall as before. The street lamps flickered, and the air was damp. Something, no, someone was watching. I gripped her arm tightly and ran into the closest wall. 

The cabin hallway was warm and cozy. I was in front of my cabin, ready to fall unconscious. "Thanks for bringing me skating in the rain Nica." Autumn thanked, walking away and waving. "Thanks, to you..." I started but she was already down the hallway.
