College mom-to-be

Chapter 5

Conner and Brayden are both at a 2 week field trip along with the other players on the football team. So these last two weeks have been boring. Today's Friday and schools over and we don't have cheer practice. Thank God. I'm so tired today. I only have one thing to do today and that's go car searching. I've been saving for my own first car for a while now. I'm sick of people having to drive me everywhere. Kate drives me (for the last time I hope) to a car lot and goes back home. I pick out a black Jeep Patriot. After almost an hour of signing paperwork I get to leave with my new car! I pick up my phone and have a text from Katelynn.

Plz pick me up some food from subway? I'M HUNGRY!! ;) ~Kate

Haha alright I will. Just got done buying my new Jeep Patriot!! I'll be home in like 15 minutes. ~Lindsey

I pick up some subway and drive home. When I get near my apartment door I hear talking coming from it? Who could be at my home right now, I mean besides Kate. I walk in the door and drop all my stuff and start crying.

"Hey baby sis." I don't even know how to react. My older brother has been in the military and I haven't seen him in 5 years. We were so close before he had to leave and once he left it was a postcard here and there. I slowly walk over still not sure that this is real. He wraps his arms around me holding tight.

"How long are you here?" I question.

"I'm back for good." You don't even know how happy that makes me.

"Well I'll give you guys some time to catch up. If you need me I'll be in my room, and tanks for the subway Linds." Katelyn says walking down the hall and into her room.

"Adam, I've missed you so much!" ,I laugh. Then I play punch him in the arm and say, " That's for leaving me alone with dad and Lexie!!"

"Why did you leave though. You never explained to me why you joined the military?"

He sighs and we both sit down on the couch in the living room. "After mom got sick and seeing her get weaker and weaker every day and all the friends and family saying 'it'll be okay' and then she died....... I needed out of there. Away from everyone saying 'I'm very sorry for your loss'. I know I left months after but that was because I wasn't 18. Once I turned 18 i was out of there."

Him mentioning mom brought tears to my eyes. I was only 14 when she died from Leukemia, and she sat in the hospital for months just getting weaker and weaker. We all prayed that God would take her pain away and soon after she passed. The one that took it hardest out of the three of us children was definitely Adam. He was a momma's boy and when she got sick he was there every day. Night and day. When she died, he locked himself in his room for months. Barely eating and cutting himself out from the social world. Now realizing it, he left very soon after he turned 18 like he'd just told me a second ago. "I understand." I tell him and then an idea pops in my head. "Let's go visit her." He looks up at me and nods. He obviously hasn't seen her in 5 years and I haven't seen her for a while too even though I know I should. It's hard to go though. I grab my keys and tell Katelynn were leaving and then we head out to my Jeep. It's a long drive since she was buried in my home town.

"So,any boyfriends?" He speaks up

I laugh, "Nope, not yet."

"NOT EVER!" he kids, "I'm not kidding!" .........Dang speak of reading your mind.

"Okay whatever you say... What about you? Any girlfriends?"

"Nope. But I got my eye on one girl. She's pretty and single, I think she is anyways." Awe it's adorable seeing my brother talk about his 'crush'.

After that we don't talk much. I turn on some music and that's how it goes for the next 4 hours. As we get a few streets away I see him tense up and his hands start shaking a little bit. I pull into the cemetery my mom was buried at and we stop in front of her grave. We both walk up and look at the name on the stone in front of us.

My dad wants to be buried with my mother when he passes so his name is one there as well. I hear a sniffle beside me and I look over to see Adam trying to hold in his tears. I give him a hug and decide to go to the car so he can have time with our mom alone. As I waited in my car my phone binged. I looked at my phone and saw it was from an unfamiliar number.

Hey Lindsey. It's Brayden.

I wonder how he got my number? I'll ask him?

Hey. How'd you get my number?~ Lindsey

Conner. So what's up?~ Brayden

Visiting my mom. You? ~Lindsey I really don't want to tell people because then I'd hear, just like Adam said, 'I'm so sorry for you loss'. And I honestly can't stand when people say that or 'it'll be okay'. I know they mean well but it's very annoying. It just brings back all of the bad things your trying to forget happened. A second later I hear another bing.

Oh have fun. I was wondering though. Would you like to hang out tomorrow? ~Brayden

Yeah sure. What time?~Lindsey

3 sound good? There's a concert at 3:30 tomorrow. It's not anyone you know probably. They're just local bands. ~Brayden

Okay sounds fun~Lindsey

Okay see you then. I'll pick you up at your apartment.~Brayden

I click the power button so it'll go in sleep mode or whatever you'd call it. I get startled when Adam opens the door and gets in. I didn't see him coming.

"So you want me to drop you off at dad's or are you gonna stay with me and Kate?" I ask.

"You and Kate." He answers quickly. I laugh and nod my head and then leave. Half an hour later and I realize my gas is almost empty so we stop at a speedway and fill up. I park the car and we go get some food too, seeing how its been like 10 hours since I've ate. I bought subway but I totally forgot about it when I saw my brother standing there. I get a hot dog and a bag of chips and a giant bottle of water and a smaller bottle of Starbucks coffee that they had in one of the freezers. I check out and when I look over Adams buying a hot dog, chicken breast, jojos, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, a bottle of mt. dew, and another bottle of Gatorade..... Growing 23 year old i guess? We go out to the car and Adam offers to drive the rest of the way which I gladly agree to. Only half an hour to go and Adam speaks for the first time since we left speedway.

"Do you wanna know who I like?"

"Yeah who is it?"

"Your actually her best friend..." He tells me. OMGGGG He liked Katelynn When we were younger but I thought he'd be over it by now!

"KATELYNN!! You still like her?" I ask.

"Yeah..... I've always liked her but she doesn't see it." He's right. She really has no clue. But that's gonna change. He's liked her for so long and she needs to find out, by him though I couldn't do it.

"You guys would be so cute Adam. You have to do something about it. Like ask her out or doing something really nice for her to show her you care about her." He nods in agreement and we didn't talk until we get to my place. Well me and Katelynn's place.
