I waited until the sound of the car driving away was no more, and slid down the wall, gasping in relief. That was a true test of my strength, and I had clearly aced it.
Then again, that was a simple knock and talk. It was pretty standard and didn't mean in the slightest that I was a suspect. But, perhaps I should take them of my town's trail. I frowned to myself. Suddenly, I wasn't very excited about seeing my jewel.
I needed to find some way to get my little ruby home safely, and little did I know, that opportunity would present itself shortly.
My little pity party was cut short when my door rang for the second time. I sighed and forced a smile on my face, pulling my muscles into their familiar positions.
"Good morning!" I chirped, opening the door.
My falsified cheer fell when I had fully processed what was before me.
