"Sure! Let me just set down this soup." She gestured to a bag in her hand I hadn't noticed before. She was a little lofty, but it only reminded me of a mermaid walking beside humans, innocent to the horrors of the world.
It makes me swoon, just thinking about it.
"Of course! I actually brought sandwiches, where can I put them?" I asked her, holding my open briefcase.
"Oh, so that's why you're here! That makes a ton of sense. As for where you can put it, we have a cabinet right here where people are free to take food. Just find space!" She said in an overly cheery voice.
I suppose it's a good thing Ariel was turned mute because if I had to deal with her speaking I'd probably think she was someone else.
We put the food down wherever there was room, and I guided her out the door. I was parked in the side area, so we had to head to the woods.
It's a shame things never go to plan.
"Elise! Over here!" A woman yelled as we passed.
Ariel grabbed my arm. "Do you mind if we talk to Jamie for a minute?"
I tried to give her a smile. "Not at all."
"Jamie, how are you? It feels like it's been forever!" She threw her arms around the bitch that bothered us.
Looking back, I should have said no.
