When we reached the end of our little journey, it was pretty late. We went window shopping and lost track of time. When we were done, me dropped me off at home. Steve was waiting in a van across the street. We exchanged hello's. He allowed us a few more minutes to talk.
"So..." Collins sighed. "I guess this is it." He was staring at the ground.
"I'm afraid so." I shrugged, fighting my tears.
"Please don't cry." His eyes started to swell.
"I can't help it. I'm really going to miss you."
He hugged me, resting his head on top of mine.
"And I miss you already." he whispered.
"You're not making this any easier."
"We have to go!" his dad yelled.
"I take it that's your cue to leave." I said.
"Yup. Stay in touch?"
"Duh."
I watched as he walked away. Just before he reached the halfway point, I ran after him.
"Wait!" I grabbed him from behind.
"What?" he laughed.
"You forgot something."
"What's that?"
"One more kiss?"
Without hesitation, he did as I asked.
"Thanks for the reminder." He smirked
"Well now that you're all set, I think you should go before your dad kills both of us. Or, worse, my brother does."
"How old is your brother?"
"Twenty-one."
"I'll take my chances."
He kissed me once more, then ran to the van. We said our final goodbyes as they drove off.
As I went back inside, I decided to call Abby.
"Look who finally decided to return my call." she said.
"You called me?"
"Yeah. A few hours ago. I wanted to let you know that I got home."
"Oh, sorry. I kinda lost track of time."
"Ahhhhhh I see..."
"What do you see?"
" You 'lost track of time'? I can take a hint."
"That's not what I meant. Get your head out of the gutter please."
"Then what do you mean?"
"We took a walk."
"What is it with you two and walks?"
"We just like talking."
"From what I've seen, you guys haven't been doing much talking. Not that's there's anything wrong with that.
"You're a mess."
"But I'm your mess."
"Well, he just left."
"Aww. Are you okay?"
"Yeah I'm fine. His dad came to get him."
"Please tell me you got a goodbye kiss."
"And if I didn't?"
"I'm gonna kill him"
"I don't think it's that serious."
"It is. So did he kiss you or not?"
"Why do you need to know?"
"Because, we're friends. And friends tell friends this kind of stuff."
"Maybe."
"It's either yes or no."
"Okay. Okay. Yes."
"How was it?"
"Excuse me?"
"Is he a good kisser?"
"What the hell Abby?"
"What?"
"I'm not giving you the details."
"Please?"
"No. That's weird."
"Ugh. Fine."
"What I can tell you is that we have school tomorrow."
"Ew. Don't remind me."
"I know, it's sad."
"But back to you and Magic Boy."
"There's nothing else to tell you."
"Oh, come on."
"We walked, we talked, he dropped me off, then he left. Nothing special."
"Is he gonna visit?"
"When he can."
"How are you gonna deal until he comes back?"
"You said it yourself. It's the twenty-first century. He said we can call, text and DM as much as I wanted until then."
"That's my girl."
