I spent the next day asking my friends about what I could do for Collins' birthday. They all had good ideas, but, none of them seemed right. I thought about the surprise call from the night before, and I thought it would be nice if the tables were turned.  I'm going to surprise him. I told the girls about the plan during lunch, and they're not too sure about it.

"You're gonna Skype him?" Gina asked.

"Yeah." I nodded.

"Why, exactly?" Britney asked.

"Every once in a while, he surprises me."

"I still don't get it."  said Britney.

"We video chat every Wednesday. But every once in a while, he'll maybe call on a day that isn't Wednesday. Like, he called yesterday."

"So, you're gonna call him on his birthday. Instead of him calling you." Abby said.

"Excactly."

"That's kinda cute." Gina squeaked.

"Yeah, I figured that since I can't spend the day with him, which he so 'subtly'  pointed out, I thought it might make him smile a bit."

"That'll definitely make his day." Abby chimed in.

"You think so?"

"Yeah. Did you tell them about Cali?"

"No, she didn't." Gina said. "What about Cali?"

"She's going to visit him this summer." Abby said.

I interrupted her. "No, she's not. He brought up the idea of me possibly going over there since he's not sure when he'll be able to visit me over here."

"Do you want to go?" Britney asked.

"Yes and no."

"Yes because?" Gina chimed in.

"I'll be able to see him and hang out and all that good stuff."

"What's the no part?" she continued.

"It's super far away." I sighed. "How many times do I have to tell you guys that he's on the other side of the country? It'd be different if he was in PA or Virgina, or any other state close to the East Coast. But, he's not."

"I'd do it." Gina said.

"You'd travel across the country? Just to see a guy?"

"Hell yeah."

"Even if it was only for three days?"

"Yeah. If it's for love, then sure."

"So you're saying that I should do it for love?"

She nodded.

"Well for starters it's a little to soon to start throwing the 'L' word around. And second, isn't that just a tad bit cliche?"

"Well what if he doesn't come back at all? What if he can't visit until next year? You can't just keep video chatting, and texting. You need face to face interaction. Even if you only visit him once, at least you'll get to see him."

"But-"

Britney cut me off, "She has a point Em. And it's California. Think of how nice it would be to get away from New York with it's crappy weather and violent cab drivers."

"I'll think about it. But, don't expect an answer any time soon."

"As long as you just try to consider it." Abby said.

"Fine."
