A/N I did say that I would post a chapter every week but I finished this chapter so I thought I would just post it. I hope you enjoy it! :)
Steve watched his breath in the air as he ran through the morning streets of Brooklyn. The heavy smell of coffee and the sight of mist brought a smile to his face but then he stopped as he knew he couldn't be happy when both he and Bucky were in such great danger.
It crippled him to think of all he had loved, all he had lost and all he knew was yet to happen. He found a small coffee shop. The sign read 'James Coffee House Est. 1938'. He and Bucky had been there before the war, but he couldn't go in there with his uniform on.
He snuck into a small alleyway and took off this shirt first, but he had his white shirt underneath. He had no trousers under his tight uniform so he had to leave his blue trousers on.
He walked confidently into the coffee shop and sat at a table by the window. He casually put his shield and uniform under the table. He began to think of what had happed in the past two days. He had to clear his mind.
The TV. That was how it started. It was the bombing. Peggy's apartment, they had bombed her apartment and then framed Bucky for it. The police and CIA had come to their flat. They had to go on the run. But then they threatened to kill the people he cared for, his friends. Nat, Clint, Clint's family, Wanda, Sam and Tony. He had to go on the run
"Sir, sir are you okay?" The waitress asked. "Um...uh, yeah, yeah." Steve replied "What can I get you then sir?" She asked politely. "I'll have umm... an Espresso please." He replied. "Will that be all?" she asked. Steve simply nodded.
He could only hope that Bucky had not been caught. Ever since Tony had found out Bucky had killed his parents, Bucky had not spent a day without him. He needed Bucky and Bucky needed him.
He heard an explosion from across the street. They had done it again and they were going to frame Bucky again. He jumped up from his table, grabbed his shield and uniform. He ran outside to the explosion. People were screaming and running everywhere. He didn't think but he didn't need to.
There was another bomb on the street. Instinctively, he ran over to it and threw his shield over the bomb and contained it. People were streaming out of the burning building but Steve could see a child, a young boy, trapped by the flames on the second floor, threatening to engulf him.
Without hesitation, Steve jumped into the building and grabbed hold of the boy's left arm. The boy looked up at him and began to sob. "Get on my back. Now!" Steve shouted, as he slung the boy over his right shoulder.
The boy jumped onto his back and he threw himself out of the window, rolling onto his shoulder to try and protect the boy. "It's ok, you're safe. Go find your parents." Steve said once they were a safe distance from the blaze.
A man and a women ran over to him. "Thank you! Oh god, thank you! You saved our son! God bless you." And then they were gone.
