N/A Happy new year! I've spent some time writing over the new year and I hope you like it! I want to write some other fanfics for other fandoms so keep an eye out for that. Have a good morning/day/night :)
Bucky saw Steve out of the corner of his eye. There was a small boy next to him. The boy had the same shaggy blonde hair as Steve. The way he was with the boy, the way he looked at him brought a tear to Bucky's eye.
This was the life Steve had always wanted. Children, security. The life he could never have with Bucky at his side. Steve turned and looked straight into Bucky's deep hazel eyes. He dropped his shield and sprinted to Bucky.
"Buck, oh my god you're okay." He grabbed Bucky and pulled him into a tight embrace. Bucky stood, motionless, staring into the distance. "You left me, Steve. How could you leave me? I need you, you know that. Why would you leave me?" Bucky pulled away from Steve and began to sob.
"Bucky I'm so sorry. I didn't want to leave you, I didn't want any of this. I was trying to protect you. I thought you were dead, maybe worse arrested, tortured. I'm sorry and I know you don't want this either. I don't know where else we can go."
Natasha had seen all of it. Everything that had happened in the few days. The news had covered all of the past three days' events. The bombing of Peggy's apartment, the second bombing, Steve's heroics saving the boy.
But only one image stuck in her mind. Bucky. His face as he walked away from Peggy's burning apartment building. Of course, she knew it wasn't him. She knew that Steve would be with him.
She could only hope that they had found a safe place to lay low, until they could come up with a plan at least. Maybe she could do something more. She pulled out her phone and rang the only person she knew would be able to help Steve and Bucky--Clint.
"Nat! We haven't heard from you for ages. What's up? You have to come visit, see Nathaniel, he's so grown up already!" Clint said as he picked up the call from Natasha.
"Well, I've been busy, you know, mostly saving people from dramatic and world-ending catastrophes. So, just the usual. Anyway, you've seen the news, right?" She replied to Clint.
"Yeah, it' terrible. Do you think it really was Bucky? Who bombed Peggy's apartment?" He asked "No. I don't think Steve would let him. They rely too much on each other, especially after Tony found out. Steve wouldn't risk another incident like last time." She replied.
In all truthfulness Natasha cared for Steve much more than she liked to admit. She might even go as far to say she loved him, but she knew he loved Bucky more than anyone.
"What if they could stay with us for a while? No-one knows about this place" He said as he looked around the dining room he had just finished painting. "Nat, do you know where they are?" Clint asked, breaking Natasha from her thought of Steve.
He picked Nathaniel up, just before he stood on a piece of Lego. "Last I heard, they were in central Brooklyn. How fast can you get there?" She said "I'll get a message to them as soon as I can." He replied.
