Trigger Warning: Abuse
Eliza's hands shook as she read and reread the pamphlet her oldest son had brought her. Philip sat next to her the entire time, he was already in tears and Eliza was trying to hold hers in for him. Philip didn't have to see that from her, she always tried not to cry in front of her children. She heard the door open and took a deep breath, channeling her sadness and betrayal into anger.
"Philip...Philip get your siblings and go to your room," She whispered. She clenched the papers tighter, "Please."
Philip nodded and hugged her tightly first. She patted his hands and then watched him run from the room and call for his siblings, finding the baby and carrying her to his room. Eliza, funny, he named their last child after her while he was having an affair with this woman.
Finally, Alexander appeared in her vision and she stood up, "How dare you even come home." She growled, shaking harder as she finally let tears appear in her eyes, "You told the whole world! You told the whole world but you didn't tell me?!" She ran and shoved him into the wall though she wasn't a very strong woman.
Alexander grunted and looked at her, "Eliza I had to...I didn't want to but it was a political sacrifice that I had to make." She knew he was trying to reason with her but it just made her anger burn brighter.
"Didn't want to?!" She turned away and pulled at her hair, "You wouldn't have done it if you hadn't cheated on me!" She screamed and grabbed a paper from the desk she had been looking at, "Do you know what this is?!" She looked at him to see him shaking his head, "This is the letter Angelica sent me when I accepted your proposal." She let a sob escape her before speaking again, "She told me to be careful with you. She's always right, isn't she? I thought I could trust you. I ALWAYS trusted you!" Eliza hadn't ever felt this much betrayal so deeply in her beings before.
Alexander looked away, "Eliza...I didn't have a choice." He mumbled and looked at her, "I was-she was-she told me she needed help because she was being beaten and screamed at by her husband daily and their daughter so I-"
"-Wait wait wait wait..." Eliza punched the bridge of her nose and looked up to the sky. She took a deep breath to try and calm herself but it was futile so she turned to Alex again, "She said she and her daughter were being physically and mentally abused so you FUCKED her?!" Alexander looked like he was trying to speak but he came up with nothing. Eliza glared at him, "You have five minutes to pack what you want to keep because you're never allowed inside of my house again. Do you understand me?" She took her ring off and threw it at him, "Because I was HELPLESS for you I could see my future in your eyes! I trusted you to go off to war again! Why couldn't I be enough?!"
Alexander looked away and Eliza coughed a few times before realizing one of the papers from the pamphlet was being lit from the fireplace. Something clicked inside her and she grabbed his first letter to her. She looked at him and then ran and threw it into the fire, "You may be in history books but I won't let historians know what I felt!" She started grabbing more letters, including Angelica's and threw them into the fireplace with them.
Alexander ran over and grabbed Eliza from behind, "This isn't healthy, Elizabeth!" He yelled and held on even as she struggled, "Just think for a moment!"
Eliza shoved him off and turned around, "You've lost every right to touch me!" She screamed, "Get out of my house!" She picked her skirt up and started screaming, "Get out!" While chasing him until he fled from their home. When he was gone she slowly slid to her knees and began crying into the floor, broken was how she would describe herself.
"Mom?" She turned around to see Philip, a look of concern on his face. He saw her face and ran over, hugging her and she hugged back while crying harder, "Mom it's okay I-I can sell my books. We'll be okay, okay?" She felt guilty, so very guilty, her son had to take on the role of his father for them but he had to and she nodded.
"I have to go out..." She looked at Philip and kissed his forehead gently, "Can you take care of your siblings? There is somebody I need to see. I expect your Aunt Angelica to make her way here soon, keep an eye out for her, okay?"
When she was sure Philip could take care of the household she set out with a hood, she was afraid of being recognized because if she was recognized she might be given looks of sympathy and she couldn't handle that. She made her way to the infamous Reynolds house and felt saddened by the fact that the house had been vandalized with the word 'whore' painted across the front.
Eliza jogged up to the door and knocked gently but that was when her ears picked up the screaming and yelling from inside. She tried the door and it swung open to her surprise so she hurried in and saw a man beating on a woman in red. She looked around and grabbed a broken chair's leg and swung it at the man's head, surprised when he fell down. She checked to see he was just knocked out and then looked down at the woman, "Maria Reynolds?" She asked.
She nodded, rubbing her arm and standing up, "Yes." She looked at Eliza and then back down, "You're Mrs Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton...I-I recognize you from a portrait from inside your house. I'm sure you know now...I am so sorry."
Eliza shook her head, "I don't blame you, I know it wasn't your choice, and I want to help you, unlike my unfaithful husband. You can live with me, you and your daughter who I've heard about."
Maria looked shocked and stared at Eliza, tears filling her eyes, "R-Really? You'd do that? You'd let me live with you even after what I've done?"
Eliza nodded and held her hand out, "Of course. I want to and I couldn't leave a woman in need so, what do you say?" She smiled gently.
Maria took her hand instantly as she started crying, "Thank you."
