A few days after the meeting, the house was bustling once again. The group all had to wake up and eat breakfast quickly; they were being picked up in the halfling village at 8 o'clock sharp.
As soon as they dressed, ate, and brushed their teeth, they waited at the door for everyone else to finish. Once Tamashi came rushing to the door, tugging on his shoe, Sans teleported them to the center of the village.
There, they were greeted by a magnificent sight. It was a beautiful pink and gold carriage that was pulled by two enormous horses. The driver was a middle aged man with a thick moustache, horse ears sticking through his hat and a long (literal) ponytail sticking out of the back of his shirt. He jumped from his perch in the front of the carriage and opened the door for them. It seemed the entire village was eyeing the carriage and admiring it from afar. As they all mounted the carriage, the driver closed the door and approached the actual horses. He whispered something in their ear and sat down on the drivers seat. The horses started moving with a quick pat on the back.
"You can talk to animals?" asked Erza through the window between two seats.
"Oh, yes! It's mostly a lost art in the world of halflings, but those who know the skill are paid well!" he chuckled in a charming voice, which was slightly muffled by his moustache.
"That's amazing, how can you talk to different animals?"
"Oh, well I only talk to horses, but I've never heard of some people who can talk to multiple animals."
"How did you learn?"
"Well, you have to feel a special connection to the world. To the sky, the grass, and you have to put that animal's mind at the center of everything. You have to understand that that being has emotions more complex than you could ever know, visions more stunning and beautiful than you've ever seen, and a life that could be more complex than yours or mine, and then talk to it as if you were talking to an old friend," responded the man. Erza looked fascinated. There was a spark in her eye, one they had never seen before.
"Er, what's your name?" asked Erza. The man gave her a big bushy smile.
"Why, Howard, Princess Ōkami!" he replied.
"Oh, you can just call me Erza," she commented.
"Okay, well, Erza, it is my pleasure to be your driver!" he spoke and put his hand through the window. Erza hesitantly took it and shook it weakly. Howard smiled and turned back around to look at the road. Erza turned back to see Sans and Isa fighting over a bowl of candy that had been set on the seat for them while Tamashi was nodding off on Sans's shoulder. Erza put her head in her hand and looked out the window. She took a moment to ponder and realize how far all of them had gotten since they got to Majikku. They could've still been stuck in the woods if Sans hadn't found that cabin, and they could've been sent to jail if Isa hadn't sniffed out that poison. Heck, they could've died that first fight with the tree monster. But they didn't, they had come so far, and this time, only Erza could bring them farther. Now, it was her time to shine.
A couple of hours had passed and everyone had dozed off, Erza had her head in her hand still, lightly snoring.
Isa leaned against one side of the carriage wall, Sans was sitting up in her seat, her head thrown back, a thread of drool protruding from her mouth and her occasionally twitching, and Tamashi was curled up in a ball, leaning against Sans for warmth.
Suddenly, the carriage jolted up, and the gang was woken up by a pot hole on the road. As everyone slowly woke up, Sans had landed on the floor. They heard Howard chuckle and he turned his head to look at them.
"We're here, sleeping beauties!" he said.
They all slowly processed the information and when they finally realized what he had said, they jolted their heads toward the window and gasped in awe.
