Ch10

DBH ch10
I awake to screaming. Thomas and I jump up, I grab my knife and slip it over my head. We run, ignoring the shooting pain in my ankle, to where the screams are coming from.

There's a big crowd by the chasm.
I push through the crowd, I see Tris crying into Four. I then look into the chasm Cam, from my class, jumped. A tear falls down my cheak, I turn to Thomas and hug him as I start to cry. "Why are you crying?" He asks me. "Th-that could have been you," I say.
"But its not, I'm here." Then Four whispers in Thomas' ear, "Tris saw the whole thing." Thomas looks down at me, telling me he will explain later.

During training I noticed Tyler isn't hiself, he did lose a close friend today. He wasn't at lunch but I found him by the chasm. "Hey," I say sitting down.
"What do you want, Stiff?"
"Meet me at the tattoo parlor after training." Before he can answer a stand and walk away.

I have the joy of fighting Liz again. That girl needs to cut her nails, their like cat claws. She cuts my right arm with her claws, it's not bleeding badly. I win in the end. I'm becoming a good fighter. After taining I head to the tattoo parlor. "Hey, what are you doing here?" Thomas asks me. He doesn't have a costumer so I sit in the chair. "There's this guy-" I start to say but I am cut off by Thomas, "are you breaking up with me?"
"No. As I was saying, Tyler from my class and Cam, the one that jumped, were close and Kayla lost a friend, so maybe they could help each other."

Kayla looks away from the tattoo she was working on, "I heard my name," she says. Then Tyler walks in, I didn't think he would show. "You told me to come here for me to watch you get a tattoo?" He says. Kayla's costumer gets up and leaved. I get up and introduce them. I sit back down, "when doesshor shift end?"
"Not for another 45 minutes." He answers, "good, I want a tattoo."

When I was young my father gave me a small black star on a necklace, I always hid it, I still hide it. Old habits die hard. I get a black star on the inside of my right wrist. We walk to his apartment.
"I get to help training from now on." He says. "Uriah and Zeke told me to tell you they're throwing a party tonight," I say.
"Emerald, what does the star mean?" I take off the small hidden necklace and a black pocket knife, I put the charm on the knife. As I set it in his hands I say, "this isn't very original but I want you to have it." He slips it in his pocket.

He kisses his hand and puts it on my cheak, I stand on my tiptoes and kiss him. We sit on the bed and talk. He tells me why Tris was crying. She lost someone too. He tells me about his erudite past. I tell him about my abnegation past, until it's time to go to the party.

The people that stay for candor or dauntless are Tris, Four, Marlene, Uriah, Shauna, Zeke, Lynn, her boyfriend Jack, Christina, Will, Eric, Payton, Kayla, and Tyler. "Rules: if you don't want to do a candor or dauntless remove a piece of clothing, shoes and socks don't count." Zeke says taking a sit in the circle.
"Me first," Uriah says. "Thomas, candor or dauntless?"
"Dauntless."
"I dare you to slap Eric across the face."
Thomas slaps Eric, "that wasn't a hard dare. Payton, candor or dauntless?"
"Candor."
"Why did you transfer?"
"I didn't like everyone to know my business. Six, candor or dauntless?"
"Dauntless."
"I dare you to answer my question. Is your name really Six?"
"No."
Then payton asks, "what is your real name?"
"I already answered your question. Lynn, candor or dauntless?"
"Dauntless."
"I dare you to go shopping with Christina."
Lynn looks at Tris then Christina asks, "seriously, what's so bad about shopping with me?" Then at the same time, Marlene and Shauna say, "I like shopping with you."
"Do y'all always talk at the same time?" I ask. "No," they answer in unison. "Okay I'll go. Zeke throw an egg at the first person you see in the pit." Lynn says. "I didn't even answer," He says throwing his hands up.
"You weren't going to choose truth, were you?"
"Well no, but whatever."
He grabs an egg and Lynn, Shauna, and Uriah follow him to the pit. Lynn, Shauna, and Uriah come back laughing but Zeke comes in holding his cheek. "He had," Uriah starts but then laughs, "to throw it at Max. Then Max punched him in the face."
"Emerald," he says. I jump, "Candor or Dauntless?"
"Um... dauntless."
"I dare you to sit in Thomas' lap." I get up and sit in Thomas' lap. He wraps his arms around me and puts his chin on my shoulder. After some rounds, Christina dares me to have a drinking contest with Payton. Payton and I sit across from each other at a table. Neither of us have ever had alcohol. Zeke sits 10 shots in front of me and 10 in front of Payton.
"Ready... set... go!" The alcohol burns my thought, but I kind of liked it a little. I was on my seventh and Payton was on her sixth. When I finish my eigth one she is about to throw up. I feel dizzy as I walk back to the circle, I sit down in Thomas' lap as a headache passes. When the headache is almost over, Four dares Thomas to bring me into his fear landscape. Thomas and I sit in the chair, "can we do this?" I ask. "Yes Four and I go in each others all the time," Tris says. Four finishes hooking us up to the machine and each other, I lay back and Thomas holds my hand, I close my eyes.

I stand next to Thomas, then look around. A man, woman, a little girl that can't be over 7 years old, and a person that looks just like me stands in front of targets. Eric walks up holding a gun. "Eric what are you doing?" Thomas asks. "Good bye dad." Eric says as he pulls the trigger. The woman must be his mom. "Bye mother," and again pulls the trigger. The two bodies are on the floor with a pool of blood around them. "Good bye, sweat heart." Eric says and pulls the trigger. I look over to Thomas he is almost crying. Eric then walks over to simulation Emerald and hold the gun to her head. "Please don't hurt her," Thomas pleads. "She'll be dead before the pain can get to her." Then shoots her. She falls to the ground, Thomas tries to run to her but he can't move. Eric keeps shooting her lifeless body. Then every thing fades to black.

When the darkness fades away I see a little boy tied to a chair. "Shoot him," a voice yells out. "But he us innocent."
"I don't care. Do it."
Thomas closes his eyes and pulls the trigger.

I look around then multiple hands grab me, trying my hand behind my back and putting tape over my mouth. Kidnap. I stop struggling and Thomas does the same. Then the ropes and tape fall off.

Thomas and I are in the pond, where we played paintball. He goes under, I look and see he is tied to an anchor. He tries to get free but he can't. A knife. I need a knife. Then I see one, I swim towards it and cut Thomas free. As soon as we break the surface we aren't at the pond.

Thomas sits in a chair inside an erudite house, his mother and father stand in front of him holding up a test with a C on it. They are yelling at him. "I'm sorry I'll do better next time." Thomas says. "You better do better next time or there won't be a next time." His father yells.
"What's wrong with you? You're his parents, you need to encourage him," I yell.
"No, Emerald, it's my fault." Thomas says in a quite voice. "I'll know better."

Then we are in an all black room, with no doors or windows. Then the walls and roof start moving towards us. Now he wraps his arms around me as we get pushed against each other. "Breath... in... out..." I remind him. Then the walls start moving away from us.

We stand at the chasm like we did the day I was late, Tris behind me and Four next to her. Thomas goes over the edge to hand. After a little while he starts to slip, then he falls. I turn to cry into Tris, waiting to hear the mist beautiful voice to ask me why I was crying but it never comes. I look and see Four trying to grab his hand, but misses.

I gasp as I wake up. Thomas is shaking. I hug him and he hugs back, "we'll finish this game tomorrow." I say. As Thomas and I walk back to the apartment.
We lay down, he is still shaking, I lay my head on his chest and he calms down. "Thank you," he says and he falls asleep.
