Thomas and I walk to the infirmary to find out if we will be having a girl or a boy, I'm four months pregnant. We set in the waiting room waiting for the doctor to call us.
"Emerald James" a nurse says. Thomas and I stand up and walk behind her.
"I found a heartbeat." The doctor says, "it's a..."
"Tell me" Thomas says.
"Thomas, shut up and he will" I say.
"It's a" the doctor says, "baby boy" Thomas and I have a huge smile on our faces.

"Thank you" I say to the doctor as we leave. We walk to the cafeteria and set with our friends.
"What is it?" Tris asks.
"A boy" Thomas and I say at the same time. The girls hug me the guy clap Thomas on the back. Christina and Will got married three months ago. Uriah asked Marlene to marry him, she said yes. I get a hug from behind me, I turn around to see Payton.
"Congratulations" she says.
"Thanks" I say.

After work I set on the couch, I all of a sudden feel tired. There is a knock at the door.
"It's Tris" Tris says.
"Come on in" I say.
"How do you feel?" she asks.
"Tired" I say and then someone else knocks on the door, Tris opens the door to Payton.
"Hey Emerald I found some things to help the baby" she says holding some books, vitamins, water, and something else. Tris gets a text.
"I've got to go, call if you need something" Tris says and walks out.
"Here these are the books I had" Payton says handing me the books. There is a sharp pain, I lean forward.
"Did the baby kick?" she asks, I nod.
"These vitamins are good for babies" she says handing me a medicine bottle and a water bottle, I don't completely trust her, but I take it, none of the bottles have been opened.
"I have to go to the bathroom" I say and walk to it. When I walk out she is looking at some pictures of Thomas and I, she picks up the picture of Thomas and I holding Brantley and that little girl at our wedding.
"Oh, sorry" she says putting down the picture. Sleep hits me hard again.
"You should lay down" she says. I lay down she puts the water by the bed.
"Stay hydrated" she says. I drink what is left.
"I'll go get you more" she says and comes back with a glass of water.
"Peter is probably wondering where I am, bye" she says and walks out the door. Thomas comes home about 30 minutes later.
"Payton gave us some books, if you want to look at them" I say. He grabs a book, sets next to me and starts to read. I fall asleep after a few minutes.

I wake up to a pain I can't describe. Thomas is sleeping with a book in his hands.
"Thomas," I say and lightly hit him with the back of my and, "Thomas"
"What?" he asks not fully awake.
"The baby... something is wrong"
"What?" he asks now completely awake.
"The baby it feels like he is... on fire" I say.
"I don't think that is supposed to be happing, we need to get to the infirmary" he says. I try to set up but I can't. Thomas picks me up and runs through the pit. The pain is unbearable, my vision starts to go in and out. The last thing I see is Thomas laying me down on a gurney and him holding my hand until other doctors and nurses hold him back.

I hear beeping, I open my eyes, there are three doctors in the room and five nurses including Marlene, but Marlene is in her pajamas.
"Mrs. James, good you're up" one of the doctors says, "Thomas James is the father, correct?"
"Yes" I say.
"Okay he can come in" the doctor says out the door. Thomas comes in and holds my hand.
"What is going on?" I ask. I set up with the help of Thomas.
"Emerald... umm..." a doctor says, "the baby..." he says my heart drops.
"Is he..." I manage to say, the doctor nods, "no" I say. Thomas wraps his arms around me.
"No" I say crying, Thomas is crying also. Marlene calls Tris and Four into the room. Tris and Four hug me.
"No" I repeat.
"What did I do wrong?" I ask.
"We have done research and found a poison made to kill an unborn child." A doctor says.
"But I never" I say.
"We know, you were given ten times what your body can handle. We also found some of it in the bottom of a water bottle and a glass of water." He says.
"Payton" I say and start to cry, "How could I be so stupid"
"What are you talking about?" Thomas asks.
"Oh my god" Tris says.
"What happened?" Thomas asks.
"I let Payton come in" Tris says.
"Emerald, you were given ten times the amount and I'm sorry to say this but..." the doctor says, "your reproductive organs were damaged."
"How bad" I ask.
"It was... completely destroyed" he says.
"No" I say the doctors and nurses leave.
"Thomas, I'm so sorry" I say, "we won't ever have a family" I fall asleep after a few minutes.

Page brake

Thomas wheels me through the waiting room, my head hanging down, I look up to see Peter smiling and Payton is looking at the ground.
"How could you?" I say looking up she does not say anything.

I lay on the bed facing the wall with the picture of Thomas, that little girl, Brantley, and myself in my hands. I have tear streams down my face. Then a little hand touches me, look over at Brantley.
"Please stop crying" he says.
"I can't" I say and force a smile. He then wipes my face with his little warm hands.
"They are serving dauntless cake do you want to come with me? Cake all ways makes me feel better." Brantley says. I hold Brantley's hand, Thomas has his arm around my shoulder, I put my arm around him. We set at a table eating cake when Brantley's friends come set with us. Thomas and the kids joke around, I remember I'm married to a child.
"There is that beautiful smile I love" Thomas whispers in my ear. I realize I am smiling.
