Ch26

I can't believe I'm getting married to the man I love. My life feels too good to be real. Maybe it is not real, maybe this is all a dream.
"As soon as I get enough money I will buy you a bigger ring" Thomas says. We should be getting ready for the day, but we are laying in the bed.
"I don't want a bigger ring, all I want is you." I say. The ring is a gold band with a black diamond.
"We should be getting up" he says.
"Do we have to?" I ask. He lean to me and gives me a quick kiss.
"Yes we have to" he says then picks me up and sets me on my feet.

When we get into the cafeteria the girls squeal and run to me. The little dauntless boy, his name is Brantley, stands by Thomas.
"You be good to her" the Brantley says to Thomas.
"Yes sir, I promise" Thomas says back. Now some other dauntless girls are around me, Thomas was pushed away from me. We set at the table.
"Christina," I say, "I know how much you hate doing these things, but I have to ask will you plan my wedding?" I say, every one laughs.
"Yes, yes, yes" she says.

When Paige walks into the training room she gives me a dirty look. Five minutes after training starts Claire and Eric walk in.
"It's my fault she is late" Eric says.
"It's a good thing I'm not going to make her hang over the chasm" Thomas says.
"Today we are fighting. Now you will practice kicking and punching, after lunch you will get to pick an instructor to fight." Four says. Paige hits the bag, I can see her struggling. I walk to her and show her what to do, she does not take my advice. I turn around, I look over my shoulder and see her do it my way, and it works. Christina has already started planning my wedding, during lunch she was asking Thomas and I a lot of questions.

First all the boys pick to fight Four or Thomas, Four and Thomas don't lose. The first two girls pick to fight Tris, she wins.
"Paige your turn to pick." Tris says.
"Emerald" she says. We step into the ring. She throws a punch, I block it, I punch her in the face. I kick her in the back of the knees making her fall. She jumps up, then jumps from one foot to the other, then she kicks, I don't have time to block it. It hits me in the stomach, knocking the breath out of me. She smirks, I then kick her in the back of the knees again. She gets up and grabs me by my hair, she rips my ponytail out, she then holds my head down so that she can knee me in the face. I grab her by the first thing I reach, her hair, then I flip her over me. I hold her down on the ground, she then punches me in the face, and flips to where she is on me.
"Thomas can't save you now" she says.
"I don't need Thomas to save me" I say, then flip her so I am on her, "I win" I say. My lip is bleeding, I wipe the blood off and get off her. Tris and I don't lose any of our fights. Paige walks up to me, Thomas I on my side and Four and Tris are in front of me.
"Emerald, that was a good fight" she says.
"Thank you, you have a good kick" I say.
"I know" she says then kicks me in the stomach again. I hold back Thomas, Four, and Tris. I walk up to her and her friends, I punch Paige harder than I have ever hit someone. When I pull my hand back I see that my ring ripped her skin.
"Sorry" I say, although I'm not really, "I'll take her to the infirmary." Then we walk to the infirmary, she asks as if the world has exploded.
"I can't believe you did this to me" she says, "You are a horrible person" she calls me every name in the book. After I leave her at the infirmary I walk down some hallways, and again I wasn't paying attention so I got lost. Then I see someone I thought I wouldn't see for a long time, Payton.
"Payton, how have you been?" I ask she then steps closer, "Payton, are you pregnant?" I ask. She puts her hand on her stomach and nods.
"I have some unfinished business to take care of" she says then pulls out a gun, I pull out the gun I keep in my waist band.
"Payton, don't do this. Think about the baby, you don't want it to grow up without a mother." I say, she lowers the gun then raises it again.
"The baby won't have to live without a mother if no one knows I killed you" she says.
"Payton don't do this" I say.
"I have to" she says then goes to pull the trigger, I pull my trigger, she is hit in the shoulder.
"Come on we need to get to the infirmary" I say and pick her up.

I set in the waiting room covered in her blood, then Peter walks in.
"Is Payton okay, is the baby?" he asks then looks at me, "what are you doing here?" then I hear someone scream.
"No!" Payton screams, Peter and I run to her.
"No!" she continues to scream.
"What happened?" peter asks.
"The baby, she is gone" Payton is screaming and crying, she then points to me, "You, you killed her"
"I'm so sorry" I say nearly crying. I took a life today. Then Marlene and other nurses pull me out of the room.
"I... I... I killed the baby" I say and now I cry.
"It was an accident" Marlene says.
"I need to go" I say and walk to the apartment.

I set on the bed with my hands to my face. I killed someone, an unborn child. I murdered today. I took some one else's life. I make myself sick from all the crying and the thoughts of me, a murderer. I run to the bathroom, I set next to the toilet. I then lay on my side and curl into a ball on the floor. Thomas runs in the bathroom, he kneels next to me, my back is to him, he puts his hand on me and pulls me into his arms.
"It okay" he says.
"No Thomas it's not, I killed someone" I nearly scream.
"You didn't do it on purpose, it was an accident" he says.
"But that won't bring the baby back" I say.
"I know, I know" he says. A few hours later I cry myself to sleep, in Thomas' arms, on the bathroom floor.

I woke up in Thomas' arms, on the bathroom floor. At breakfast Christina asks us more questions. The initiates fight each other. I'm not the same person I was before I became a murderer. Thomas and I were setting on the bed when someone knocked on the door. I open the door to Payton in a wheel chair, she looks like she hasn't stopped crying.
"Payton, I'm so sorry. I know that saying that won't bring her back, but I'm so sorry" I say.
"I know it was an accident." She says.
"I'm sorry" I say she is almost crying and so am I.
"It was accident and I don't blame you. I should have been a better mother. I will never be a good mother" she says crying.
"You will be a great mother" I say then hug her.
"I'm sorry for everything I have ever done, I'm sorry. Can you forgive me?" she says.
"If you forgive me" I say.
"Okay" she is still crying, then peter comes and takes her to his apartment. She forgives me, and I forgive her.

I lay down and sleep with ease.

They are fighting each other again, I still am upset I killed her but I feel better now that Payton has forgiven me. After training Thomas and I are going to tell my mom and Matthew and Thomas' father.

Thomas holds my hand the whole train ride. I take in a deep breath then knock on the door. My mother opens the door.
"Emerald, I'm so sorry" she says then pulls me inside to hug me.
"Mom I need to tell you and Matthew something" I say.
"Okay, who is this" she asks.
"I'll tell you and Matthew at the same time." I say. My mother and Matthew set in front of Thomas and I.
"Who is this?" Matthew asks, Thomas grabs my hand under the table so they can't see.
"This is Thomas" I say, "We have been dating over a year," I don't know if I can continue.
"Mr. and Mrs. Stone," Thomas continues for me, "I love Emerald, so I asked her to marry me." Thomas and I look at our hands then each other.
"I love him" I say.
"Emerald, you are only seventeen" Matthew says I look at him, "but I can see it." I smile and hug them. My mom pulls Thomas into the hug.
"How old are you, Thomas?" my mom asks.
"Nineteen" he answer.
"You two are too young," my father says, "but I married the love of my life at eighteen"
"Thank you" I say. Now Thomas and I walk to his father's house in erudite. We have to sneak around because Thomas is not allowed erudite.
"My dad... he isn't... remember how I know a lot about medical stuff? He wanted me to be a doctor, he started to teach me from a young age. I didn't want to be a doctor so I transferred. I have not seen him since my choosing ceremony." Thomas says, then knocks on the door.
"Hello Thomas, are you here to say you are sorry for not becoming a doctor?" his father says.
"No sir, I'm here to tell you-" Thomas starts.
"You idiot, leave at once" his father says then slams the door closed.
"That went better than I thought it would" Thomas says. We walk home hand in hand.
