When I woke up Thomas had just got out of the shower, so I got in. I put on clean clothes and put my hair in a messy pony tail. He is just finishing on making breakfast as I walk out the bathroom. He tells me today he has to work at the tattoo parlor and won't be there for the fights. Thomas stands up and walks behind me, pulls the hair tie out of my hair, and starts to braid it. "How do you know how to braid?" I say when he finished. "Back in erudite, I would babysit my neighbor's daughter." He forces a smile.

Thomas walks me to the training room. He brings his hand to his lips than puts his hand on my unwounded cheek "see you latter." I walk through the door and he walks to go to work.

Before lunch we kick and punch the punching bags. At lunch I sit with Thomas and our friends. Tris walks with me back to the training room. When we walk in Eric is there talking to Four. Eric turns around "Look at that, the stiff is on time." I roll my eyes. He walks up to me and hisses in my face, "If you know what's good for you, you might want to change your attitude." He walks out, slamming the door "And you might want a breath mint." I say under my breath. Tris and Four start to laugh. They stop when the rest of the class walks in, and put on their instructor faces.

I don't fight, Thomas most likely had something to with that. I was happy when Payton lost to Dalton. After training is done I stay after to help Four and Tris clean up, Four is called out of the room for something in the control room. "Tris can you help me find someone?" I ask. "Yes, who?" "I was close to Natalie Prior, I told her every thing. I told her my test results. She said to follow my heart,that's what her daughter did. Natalie asked me to get a letter to her daughter, Beatrice. I need your help to find her." She looked like she was about to cry. "I- I'm Beatrice." Why didn't I put this together, she was the stiff last year and I'm the stiff this year and that's why she helped me so much. "In that case there" I hand her the letter.

When she finished reading the letter she hugs me and whispers into my ear "what were your test results?" I whisper back "dauntless and abnegation." "Thank you." "There is one more person I need your help to find, Thomas' brother. Please don't tell him." She nods and says "I did not know he had a brother, what's his name?" "I don't know, but I do know that he was a transfer to dauntless, from erudite, three years ago."

We go to her apartment, she gets Fours laptop and hands me hers. We had been searching for an hour when Four walked in. "Tris, Thomas asked me to check on Emerald, have you seen her?" "She is in here with me." She answers. "What are you doing?" He asks us. "Thomas' brother" I answer. "Let me look" he says as he takes his laptop, I set Tris' on the coffee table. "You know Thomas isn't going to like you doing this." Four says. "Well he never said I couldn't look for him. He just said that I don't want to meet him."

"I think I've almost got it." He says handing me the computer. "It says Thomas' mother died the year he transferred. Thomas' brother is Er- Eric. What? Eric and Thomas are brothers." "I need to go." I said walking out the door.

I walk down the dark hallways. Thomas and Eric brothers, but they can't stand each other. "Emerald can I talk to you?" I turn around and see Payton. "I'm sorry. I did that to you." I don't know what to say. "I know that no matter how much I say that I'm sorry won't fix what I did. But I- I need your help." "Why do you need my help?" "There's this guy." She smiles, I've never seen her this happy before. "His name is Eric." My jaw drops. She then tells me that she was walking to the training room and they ran into each other and when he saw her his anger faded away. "I'll see what I can do." I say as I walk away.

Thomas and Eric are brothers. I have to tell Thomas. I'll do it after dinner. I walk to the tattoo parlor and from there Thomas and I walk to the cafeteria. When we finish Thomas and I go to the chasm.
