The next day I open my door to head out to work. An envelope falls at my feet. I pick it up and see a note scrawled on the front.

Please take this.
-S

Sighing, I take the envelope with the overly-extravagant gift card back inside with me. I quickly add a note of my own under his.

No thanks.
-J

I shove the envelope into the narrow gap between his door and the frame and hurry down the hall to the elevator.

Nine hours later, I'm back in my hallway unlocking my door. Work was good. I felt like I was finally putting some of my mathematical skills to use. It was tiring, though. Maybe I'm spoiled, but I'd never worked a full-time job before. My only other work experience had been as a part-time nanny during the summer in high school and college.

I was stepping inside my door when I heard a voice.

"What does the J stand for?"

I turn around and see Shawn. He is leaning against his door jam wearing black jeans and a gray t-shirt. That damn envelope is in his right hand. I spot a bird tattoo and find it kind of sexy, which is unlike me.

"Jessica," I say, and I shut my door.

To be honest, I'm not sure why I am being so rude. Maybe it's because he's famous and the whole situation is strange. I did pretty much catch him in the act up against my door. Maybe it's because he is so handsome and that is really intimidating.

There's a knock at my door. I know it's him. I open it.

"Look, Jessica...I don't know why you won't take this gift card, but it's starting to piss me off," he says. The look on his face tells me he isn't lying.

I roll my eyes and put my hand out. He smirks slightly as he puts it in my hand. He then turns and walks out without saying another word.

After he's gone I chuckle slightly. He's nuts if he thinks I am taking this thing.
