It's Friday morning and I wake up late. I can hear sounds in the kitchen and know that Marian is taking care of Lila. A deeper voice let's me know that Shawn is down there, too. I wish he'd bring me a cup of coffee. I need it badly.
My wish is granted and Shawn appears in the doorway. He leans against it and smiles at me.
"Here's your coffee. Sweet and light, just like my beautiful wife."
I roll my eyes. "That went overboard in cheesiness."
He walks in the room, sits next to me on my side of the bed, and hands me my coffee. "You were sound asleep this morning when Lila came into our room."
"You kept me up late last night. It's your fault."
"Hardly. You were bitching about how bad your PMS is and then you attacked me saying that was the only thing that would help."
"I hate PMS. That will be one of the best things about having another baby. Between pregnancy and breastfeeding, I can go over a year without dealing with that shit," I say.
I jump in the shower, get dressed and ready for the day, and am in the kitchen eating a banana within 30 minutes.
I go into the living room to talk to Marian about her plans for the day. There's a puppet show at the library that I think Lila would like to go to.
I hear my phone ringing. I'd set it on the counter when I got my breakfast.
"I got it, mommy!" Lila yells. She grabs my phone and comes running into the living room. She trips on edge of the area rug and falls flat on her stomach, and my phone goes flying.
"Lila! Are you okay?" I ask, jumping up and running to her.
She starts crying, so I pick her up. Shawn comes in the room from the kitchen, having heard the whole thing. He looks Lila over as I hold her to make sure she is fine. Soon enough the tears have abated. Shawn walks over to where my phone landed and picks it up.
"Delilah may be fine but your phone is toast, babe."
He holds it up and shows it to me. The screen is shattered and the screen is black.
"It's not even 9:00 and today sucks," I say.
"We will just have to go get you a new one," Shawn says.
I sigh loudly. "Not today. I need to get working. Tonight we have dinner plans with Kendra and Mike."
"I'll run out and get it," he suggests.
"No. I want to look at all the phone choices in person." I set Lila down. "Why don't we go to the Apple Store on 5th Ave tomorrow? After, we can walk over to Central Park and take Lila to the zoo."
Shawn nods. "You can go that long without a phone?"
I laugh. "Of course."
The next day we get to the Apple Store right as it opens since I am missing my phone like crazy. I look over all the choices and pick the latest model in the silver finish.
"That's exactly what I would have picked out for you if you'd let me help yesterday," Shawn says with a chuckle.
"Whatever. We wouldn't be going to the zoo, though, would we?"
Lila hears the word 'zoo' and gets very excited. "Are we going?"
"Just a minute, sweetie. They just need to set up mommy's new phone."
